I have not played much 14.1 with probably only 25-30 games max in my life.
Until this week my high run was 34. This week I ran 58 and missed on the break shot. That stung!!

58 seemed like forever and was tough so I gained a new perspective on how hard 100 must be.

For me finding and leaving a good break ball and key ball is the toughest part. I can make the balls but need help learning the patterns to keep and
move break balls to good locations.

My 58 was on a Gold Crown 4 with 4.5 inch pockets. I also ran in the 30s twice the same day while playing 4 games.

I dont know if I will ever get up to 100 but i am going to start practicing
it a little each week.

Any tips or advice for 14.1 play??

well done! your on the way to 100...

if you want to learn, and no one close to you plays great, watch Accustats vids by...Sigel, Dallas West, Rempe, Hopkins, The Miz....etc

good luck, Gerry

Frank,
WOW!!! That is a GREAT accomplishment (major, major goal for me - stuck at 45 now). I think there are so many great players on the board that people take high runs for granted. On tough equipment a 58 is SMOKIN'

I've played probably a hundred hours of 14.1 with world champions on tough equipment, and have seen only 2 runs over 50 (Johnny Archer 58 on a medium table, Jeanette Lee 68 on a "torture table"). Though it is possible that I bring everyone's game down a notch, it's NOT that easy, and it IS an accomplishment of which to be proud.

Advice??? Not from me, but from a former #1 in the world: assuming your stroke is sound, find an "old-school" player (like Grady M., Danny D., sjm) and play them as often as possible (or take lessons). If that isn't possible, get all of the player review Accu-Stats straight pool tapes and memorize them (along with Jim Rempe's 2 tapes on "How to Run a Rack" and "How to Run a Hundred"). Get Phil Cappelle's "Play Your Best Straight Pool", and memorize it. Get in or start a straight pool league. Visit Betmore's Basement (straight pool shrine) the next time you are in Indy (can't really consider yourself a "real" straight pool player til you've visited there).

gratz !! im stuck at 3 racks :'( just cant seem to pass the 50. i can only imagine how a 58run can fiel. next time, always take your camera with you. :)
would be perfect video for the youtube place coling started.

keep up the good work. u got greath advice already here

Congratulations on your fine run, Frank. I assume this is a table at your house. Am I right about that. Regardless you will be a force to reckon with at the U.S. Amateur Championship this year. Good luck.

Congrats Frank, up until a few months ago my high run was also 58 but I have had 2 runs in the 70's (72, 77) and a 62 since then. I had never really played the game much but started practicing it at least a few hours every week over the last 3 months or so and as with anything else it becomes easier with practice. Knowing your ability and knowledge of the game you will learn the patterns and subtleties pretty quick with enough practice. Playing on good equipment with clean balls also helps a bunch, really dirty balls skid and do not break worth a crap and can make high runs nearly impossible. I plan on trying to break 100 within a year of when I started practicing, that was in may so a little less then 9 months to go. I may have to step up the practice a bit if I am going to get there.

Here is a link to a file I made from Steve Lipsky's awesome instruction in that thread.

David,

I am truly touched by this. Thank you for the kind words.

That said ;) , it seems a few of the diagrams didn't come out correctly in the new WEI table. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.

Thanks again... you made my day!

- Steve
