Just thought I'd share some pics of my 1963 GCI that I finally had set up. Ernesto and Oscar did a phenomenal job as always! Nicer guys you won't meet. They put new rubber on as well as Simonis 860 and made the pockets 4 inch.
Right before they got to my place my back went out. So now I get to LOOK at this table for the next 2 days!!! Ugggggggggg.

Let me make sure I understand this correctly. You have a three car garage and you are using the whole thing for the pool table while wifey is parking outside on the driveway?

Sweet table, my friend. May have to make a trip up there, not just to play pool but to meet this saint you are married to. ;)

She must love me! It actually takes up 2 spots in the garage. She's be able to park inside as soon as we put everything away.

Mitchell, you always have an open invite!

What kind of new cushions did they install?...calibrate the rails? Table looks great, did it come with adjustable leg levelers in 1963?

Very cool. Gotta love that Gold Crown. Modern Art. A league of their own.
Nice set up. We know you're enjoying it. Feel better and get the balls rollin'.

I like pocket openings. Pocket are small, but i can see that pockets will exept power shots also :)
Great table man:thumbup:

Love the Gold Crown 1s! Here in Brewster, NY, we have a pool hall full of GC1s (Jack & Jill Q Lounge on Main Street, which has been open since the early 1960s), and those tables play like greased lightning.

They're built like brick outhouses, too!

It is a tank for sure.

Nice GCI!

And congrats on your tight pockets. It certainly takes some time and $$ to do them right.

BTW, The early GC's make me think of Action Billiards in Madison, WI. Do you remember the matching cue racks and chairs that Brunswick made during that era? All cool stuff....

My funniest memory of the Gold Crown 1s are when a friend and I were playing the weekly 9-ball tournament at that same 1960s-era pool hall (Jack & Jill's Q Lounge in Brewster, NY). My friend, Jerry Barton (another Open-level player) and I went deep in that tournament. As you progressed from match to match, obviously you got placed on a different GC1 table. Well, Jerry got placed on the table that the place uses for their "Break and Run" challenge. Needless to say, a ton of break shots were performed on that table, and the foot spot was so divoted, that the 1-ball rested probably a 1/16-inch below normal (it was sunk into the table). Jerry broke a sledgehammer break, and the cue ball launched off the 1-ball as if it were a ramp, and the cue ball went airborne about two full table lengths, slamming into the metal skirt between the legs of a table three tables down. To say that the sound was like a "gong" amplified ten times over doesn't do it justice. The noise was probably one of the loudest things I ever heard. Add to that the Latinos in the place all yelling "HEYYYY!!!!" at the top of their lungs, and the crimson embarrassed expression on Jerry's face, running to go fetch the cue ball, just adds to the experience.

Ya had to be there. :-D

Is that all the original paint? Not many restorations are repainted tangerine...

Love the angle of the pocket openings too, not a big funnel, just looks like a perfect straight "either the ball is in or it isn't" opening.

Do balls rattle out less with openings cut like that?

It's all original except for rubber and cloth. Even the pockets are original.
It's a fair table. If it's a well hit ball it's in. Not too much jiggle because the GCIs have a short shelf.
I'm digging it.
The first thing I did was install the Slug Doctor rack. Tight rack with no worry. Love it.
