I have posted this photo from the 1987 Steve Gumphrey memorial tournament held in Jackson, MS before. I have now made a video that IDs all the players in the tournament and the lovely lady in the middle of these competitors here. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=4916858534063324239&hl=en

OMG. What a classic photo. Louie, Lemke, Billy Johnson (Wade Crane), Earl, TK from FLA, Jimmy King, Mark Jarvis, Danny Jones, David Howard, Jeff Carter, Buddy, Sid Mann, Redbird, Mark Showalter, Gene Catron, even a baby faced Johnny Archer (try to find him). George Brunt, our very own Ironman (am I right or am I wrong?). And that's Steve's lovely wife Peggy in the middle. I had such a crush on her. I'll find some more players, give me time. Who else can name some guys?

Sonny Springer, Jimmy Hodges. I think that's Medina next to Buddy, but I'm not sure.

I don't think that's Earl Jay, that's Jim Rempe, just kidding of course;):D Is that a young Johnny Archer in the back row? Great photo, love the outfits.

Most definitely Earl. And yes that's Johnny up there between Gene Catron (in the black cowboy hat) and Jimmy King.

Am I right??? (Jimmy Mataya right above C. Everett Koop)?

Good one. He looks so damn young! He was obviously moving on Peggy.:)

I looked again. I don't think this is Jimmy.

Never mind.. I just noticed Jay pegged the two I was going to mention.

Looks like Jeff Carter, two over from David Howard. Is that Tommy Kennedy all the way to the right?

That's all I recognize that haven't been mentioned yet.

Russ

Correct on both counts Russ. I called Tommy "TK From FLA". Scott always intros him that way. Jeff has the baseball cap on.

Hell, I wanted to go to that tournament. I LOVED Steve Gumphrey! One of my all time favorite pool players. He was just a great guy! Always smiling and happy like Tommy K.

Everyone who knew Steve Gumphrey loved the guy, Jay. Like you say, always smiling and would crank it up with the best of um. God rest his soul.

Last man on the right in the third row up. He's wearing a full beard. He was playing good back then. He had just went to the finals of the Classic Cup against Sigel a couple of months prior. Yes, he lost. :)

I said Sid Mann, but I think I was wrong about the older guy who is third from the left in row two. It's actually Myron Zownir. He played in quite a few tournaments back then.

He once claimed that he made 6 nine balls on the break in a row on his home table. No one witnessed it and there was no video proof, but that made no difference to him. He just kept boasting about it for a year or two. After a while, it was like who cares.

Click on the link in the OP Jay and watch the video. That guy is identified as Jim Brock and the other one you say is Jarvis is identified as Scotty T.

Gene Cooper was playing again a few months ago but seems to have quit as he has not been to Shannons or Viking tournaments in a couple months, he's standing beside Archer on the right side.

You sure are right Jay! I guess that's when he was sporting the John Malkavich look. The beard through me off. Philw

I see Wade Crane, Scotty T, Johhny A, Danny Jones, Jerry Bentos. , Floyd Baxter, Gene Cooper. ST Louie Louie, Tommy K, David H. Buddy H. Larry Price.

That is all I know without looking.

I am still trying to find Jimmy King!

Thanks for sharing Bill!;)
