$2,000 Sets Tonight!!!!

Maybe the froze up money melted a bit due to global (or pool table) warming.

Seriously, that brings up a good point.

What does "froze up 10K" mean?

The others guys backer realized he was in a bad game. I didn't want trouble so Bill and I agreed it was best that we quit after the first set. He didn't even want a spot to finish out the ahead sets.

You showed too much speed. ;)

sounds like he did, but...

if the money is "froze" then play hard as you can to get to the finish line (5 ahead).

letting the opponent out of the bet early because his backer didn't like your high gear, or his horse's low gear, should have cost their side a buyout penalty, imo.

good shooting, nevertheless, Allen.

best,
brian kc

2 on six isnt worth the saver........... ;)

good to see some action here in AL...in bham its pretty dry at the moment. just the usual guys playing low dollar 1 hole. but who knows...maybe tedder and scooter will stop by before the year is out and we will see some fireworks

Changing Mid Set

Curious what would have happened if the "visiting team" had called the game once they realized they had bitten off more than they could chew. Playing devils advocate even though I honestly think you did the right thing either way.

You should reapproach him and offer some weight and play 500 a set. Just play for his cash not the backers... Pretty funny a guy who can't shoot good in his home table has a backer...too funny.

I've had people back my opponents in bars because they were the best pool player they knew from league or whatever. It's funny to watch the backer and his player tighten up when I roll over them. I gave one guy all the breaks and the 7 after winning $100 in a 5-0 race even on a barbox. Second set I let him win one and beat him 5-1. Pretty sure they both knew I had dogged the 7 on purpose. First time I ever tried playing the lemon, probably written all over my face. Good times.

I wish Wendy was able to watch you playing, but at the same time I am happy she wasn't otherwise I would put myself in danger to loose her and to stay without her.
She can be very unpredictable especially in places crowded with men:eek::eek::eek:
Anyway, glad to see you again. We have just come back from vacation:smile:
We were hanging with Gene for a week or so.Later he needed to start acting again. He is preparing a new movie about a secret agent who can't find a way to leave his job without mortal consequence. He also struggles with his addiction to save people from bad people and from the evil.
It will be a great movie.I would say,it can win even a Grammy if Gene will be in good mood:eek::smile:

Well, I wished I could say that you were wrong on this one, but you were spot on. I came out of the gate way too strong. The guys backer pulled up after the first set when I won it 7-1. The guy I was playing was shooting like a one eyed fish out of water.

I did feel bad for him and didn't want to cause any kind of drama because I was at his house playing on his table and only had one other person with me.......compared to his five. I was kind enough to let him know that I'm not looking forward to shooting as bad as he does when I get to be his age:cool:

He gave me a few drinks and we played some friendly games while shooting the breeze.
He's decided that he's going to stick to checkers and dominoes for a while. We had a good time that was filled with a lot of laughter and joking back and forth.

You said: "I'm playing some $2,000 sets of 10-Ball tonight. Each of us has froze up $10,000 a piece. We are playing until someone has lost all of their share."

You knew you were playing at his house. How did you put yourself in a position to not get out with, or lose, $10K?!

someone got
some splain' to do

Lou, I had Cowboy Bill with me so I knew I would be fine. 5 on 2 aren't good odds and Bill and I played it smart. I didn't mean to come out the gate as strong as I did and I surely didn't think his backer would pull up after the first set.

I guess it's one of those could've, would've, and should've moments. You live and learn especially when I'm not even over 30 yet.

Allen,
I am not being a wise ass. You said you are under 30, live and learn. In an earlier post you indicated that you were "carrying", (I am not suggesting use). You also had drinks and played for fun after.

I have to ask, what did you learn?

I hear you Phil loud and clear. I learned a big lesson.

If you do not want to say, that is fine. However, from your prospective, I would like to hear what you learned from ths experience. I liked this thread and have been watching it because I was interested the 'gamble" you displayed. I am 68, from a different era. I will drop it if you wish.

Allen, my point was you froze up money. That means someone wins or loses it all regardless of how strong one player starts out. IOW, there is no pulling up. At a minimum, as another poster has mentioned, there should have been a penalty or buy out from the guy who pulled up.

Or maybe freezing up $10K means something different where you are though your OP seems to indicated it means the same to you and I.
