200+ Ball Runners

Well im a 200+ball runner! I have run over 200 balls a couple of times in my life and did it to Dave Daya last year at Big Daddy"s. I love the game but nobody ever wants to gamble at it so i stopped playing it right after that. Dave Daya is like the only guy i ever gamble at str8 pool with because he has alot of HEART!!! So count me in as a 200 + ball runner

Hey Ryan. You are already on the master list, which is in the 14.1 forum.

382

Hey guys. I know some of you don't venture into the 14.1 forum much, but a question arose there about how many 200+ ball runners are currently alive. I'm trying to put together a list and would appreciate some help from any of you who might have some good knowledge on the subject.

I'm especially looking for help on the international players, but there are many people from the states who I can't move from the "possibles" list to the "confirmed" list until someone chimes in and can vouch for a run.

Living 200 + Runners

Thanks in advance,
Steve

RAY MARTIN ran 382

Teddy Garrahan ran over 250 in practice about 5 or 6 years ago in Crown billiards. Was witnessed by at least 6 people.

Good one to add to the list! I forgot about Teddy G. since he got out of Pool and moved to Vegas.

why not list the living and the legends. you can note the ones that are gone. this makes it complete and never changing.

ive seen ervolino and euphemia do it in new york. i dont know if euphemia is still around.

Lol, you do NOT have to worry about that last part from me!
 I was talking about the online database I was proposing to record future high runs, not the list you're working on. I edited my post to clarify.

Hi Maha. Actually, in my view, listing the legends makes the list far more incomplete. We'll never hope to get a list of everyone who ever ran 200, but I think we might have a decent shot at getting everyone alive who has.

I want the list to answer a question. That is where its usefulness will come into play. We might even be able to do some math and come up with a decent estimate as to what % of the pool playing population has achieved this milestone.

We could never hope to answer the question of "who has ever run 200?" so I'm not even going to try.

Thanks,
Steve

High runs

I'd like to know about high runs of some of the hall of famers like Caras, Mosconi,Mizerak... a constant argument i hear is that the old timers had easy pockets ect.. what is the truth did these legends run higher numbers more consistantly??

A valid question, yes, but not the point of this thread. This thread is devoted to players still with us -- living. And, like Steve L. says, it's very difficult to compile an accurate list of accomplishments for players that have left us, because there's no evidence and noone left to speak for those accomplishments (for other-than-the-well-known-masters, of course).

I think you might want to start a new thread with this question -- and I'm sure you'll get great feedback/responses! In the meantime, you might want to start with this page, with the advisory that this page is NOT up-to-date:

Hope this is helpful,

Steve,
I think Mark Wilson's high run at the time he "retired" from competition was 180-something on a 9footer; and 108 (or something close) on a 10 footer (he considers the mark on the 10 footer as much more difficult). I'll check his exact high run next time I speak with him and post it here.

I will also ask him about Sailor's high run (Frank Stellman). I would be very surprised if it wasn't over 200, but you definitely want to be certain. He would also know Jeff Carter's numbers; and probably Efren's as well.

Thanks to both Don and Sean for your helpful responses.

I've put out some feelers on facebook for Stevie Moore and Alex Pagulayan, so hopefully I should get some responses there.

I can't believe that nobody on azb can confirm Keith McCready's high run. Where is JAM?

In Keith's interview with TAR a few years ago, I remember him saying that he "ran a hundred." Maybe it was more. I think if he wanted to, Keith could have ran 300+ on a good night with tight pockets. JMO. I've never seen Keith shoot 14.1 - probably because there was no money in it.

Dont forget to + Pete Margo and larry Nevel to the list!

Pete Margo is on the list; this is the first I've heard about Larry Nevel's accomplishment. Can you give me just a bit of background on it, as I would not have figured him to be a straight pool player.

Thanks,
Steve

I saw Larry Nevel run 198 about 10 years ago. I'm pretty sure he's run 200 or more several times.
He used to play a lot of straight pool, especially back when he played the BCW 14.1 tournament every year in Milwaukee. Played a bunch with John Brannon, George Pawelski, Tom Karabatsos (an over 20 0 runner)and Willie Munson.
Larry ran a VERY high number on a 5x10 snooker table too.

Fantastic, thanks for the confirmation...

Can I get an honorable mention for my 199 at Valley Forge, it was on a bar box diamond. There were a bunch of witnesses probably about 10 maybe 15. I know it says 200 ball runners I thought I would give it a shot...

Steve, I believe McCready once stated on this board that he once ran 150...so I guess that's his high run.

Did you miss because of the number?
