Well, it's not an open. What it is is two simulataneous events, a 64 player women's event and a 64 player men's event. Last year's champions were Karen Corr and Tony Robles.

As the brackets will evidence, this event draws a very strong international field each and every year in both the men's and women's divisions.

You'll be very glad if you do attend. Watching the top men and the top women compete in the same venue at the same time is a one-of-a-kind experience in pro pool today. A typical session consists of four men's division matches and four women's division matches played simultaneously on the eight tournament tables.

Be warned, though, that by the time Thursday 5/19 is over, there will only be three men and three ladies left, so if you want to see most of the top players, it's best to get there by Wednesday. If you do, it's an international who's who of pro pool.

It only coincides with probably the biggest amatuer pool tournament in the world, the BCA 8-Ball Nationals. I think there might be a little action.

I'm going there on the 16th for the amateur team event and I'm really excited about it. This will be my first national event, so I'm going to learn alot about it and, hopefully, play in the singles event next year. The pro tournaments are just such a huge bonus and I'm really looking forward to watching them as much as I can. From what I've heard, there's a lot of "back room action" too, as well as a bunch of small entry fee tourneys, so should be a ton of fun.
