2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

She is not ranked #1 in the World, she is #1 on the US womens tour. Jasmin is the #1 in the World rankings.

I think that Allison Fisher is considered to be the world's number one female player in the same way that Efren Reyes is the regarded at the top of the men's game.

There is no doubt that Allison Fisher is the favorite here. When Jasmin overtakes Allison on the WPBA tour then she will get the number one recognition that goes with it.

The WPBA is the defacto World Ranking. I don't think anyone wants to bet money putting the top ten in the WPBA against the top ten on the World Ranking.

And that's what I meant. Jasmin being number one on the WR is definitely deserved. She's definitely top ten in the world right now in my opinion.

Tiffany Might Be Done. :-(

Tiffany Nelson lost a heartbreaker to Malaysian player, Suet Yee Kwan. 4:5.

Tiffany is probably mathmatically eliminated at this point. I hope not.

Allison Fisher vs. Amit Rubilen

Allison is in a must win situation. If she wins then she is 3:2 in her group and has a chance to get through on games.

Game 1.
Amit breaks dry and leaves Allison a shot on the one but a clustered table. There is no shot for the 2.

Allison plays an open table safe which Amit promptly plays a lock up safety. Alllison is in trouble here. SHe ust draw kick it. Goes long. Ball in hand for Amit.

The five is locked up behind the six. Amit must play a combination which she does perfectly and gets perfect shape.

Then Amit overcuts the four and hangs it in the pocket but she hooks Allison with a full ball in the way. Allison must play rail first and she just misses it.

Second BIH for Amit in rack one. Looks routine from here. Comes up a little short on the 9 but it should be no problem. Nothing but net. 0:1

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 2

Allison breaks and makes a ball but has no shot. She plays safe and Rubilen kicks two rails to get a thin hit. Allison is left with an open table. She is however a little off angle on the 4.

Allison plays a perfect stun shot to get back in line. Runs out from there 1:1.

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 3

Amit to break. 1 in the side, cueball in the middle with a shot on the 2. Runs out to the 8 and comes up way short. Slices it in like Efren. Gets perfect on the 9. 2:1 and showing no fear.

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 4 1:2

Fisher breaks. Has no shot and pushes. Amit takes the shot and leaves Allison a long shot to the corner. ALlison is jacked up on the rail. She misses badly but gets fortunate and leaves Amit safe.

Amit kicks one rail and leaves Allison and easy safety. Rubilen is in trouble here and is kicking two rails. She makes a good hit and caroms the 7 in and ends up with a good shot on the one. She runs into the 3 and blows shape. Amit plays a good kill shot to get a weak safe behind the 8. Allison should hit the ball easily. She does and kicks it in the side!

Now she is looking good to get out from here. She does 2:2

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 5

Rubilen breaks and makes a ball but is hooked on the two. She elects to push. Allison can see the long two and it has a clear path to the pocket. It's a two way shot. She overcuts it and the two caroms off of the 7 an goes in. She gets perfect on the 3. A little short on the 4. Spins right out of the corner around the 7 for perfect shape on the 5. No problems left. Wow, she overdraws the cueball and gets awkward shape on the 9. She is back cutting it to the corner, and executes with no problem. 3:2

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 6

Fisher breaks. Makes three balls but one of them was the cueball. The next two balls are the 2 and 4 and the 4 is tied up with the 5. Very tricky situation for Rubilen. She plays the cueball downtable to try and into the one tiny window for the 4. Doesn't get there and goes for the standard stop the cueball safe but she overdraws the cueball and leaves Allison a straight in shot. Allison makes it but gets fairly straight on the 5. The 6 is blocked by the 7. She plays for the 6-7 combo. She must watch out for the 6 following the 7 in and it does. So Allison's shape on the 8 is less than ideal to get down to the 9 easily.

And she scratches on the 8 trying to bring the cueball past the side pocket. 3:3

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 7 3:3

Rubilen MAKES THE 9 on the SNAP. 3:4 Allison is perilously close to being out of the tournament here.

Fisher vs. Rubilen Game 8

Allison breaks and makes two balls but has no good shot on the 1. She plays for the side with a safety built in. Rubilen can see the 1 but has no shot. She attempts a safety and leaves Allsion a long shot up the rails. The 6 is tied up in this rack. Allison elects to play safe instead of taking on the tough shot. She hooks Rubilen behind the 8.

Rubilen makes contact but caroms into the corner giving up Ball in Hand to Allison. Allison is still faced with an off angle combination on the 6-9 to deal with later in the rack.

Allison leaves herself jacked up over the 8 and has to use the bridge to shoot the 3. She looks very awkward and elects to play safe instead of cut the 3. Rubilen has a window it appears but no shot. Maybe a bank. She goes for the bank but comes up short. Allison has a shot to make the 3 and an break out the six. She hangs the 3 in the corner and breaks out the 6. Amit has a clear shot now.

The 4 to the 6 is a little tricky. If she gets here then Allison might be done. Amit leaves herself in good postion for the six. Will her nerves hold up. Yes. No trouble here it seems. Amit runs out and puts Allison out!!!

The Filipinas have arrived.

Thanks for the updates John, we appreciate it.

Go Rubilen! It's been known in the Philippines that she's got the talent and guts to compete with the Pinoys there. She just hasn't been performing too well in international competitions (outside of SEA) the past couple years. Hopefully this will be the breakout year for her, and she'll get the international recognition she deserves.

BTW, where is Iris Ranola this tournament?

Alison Fisher, Helen Thornfeldt and Gerda Hofstatter are all out.

Maybe "The WPBA is the defacto World Ranking. " isn't a convincing argument any more.

Esther Kwan Suet Yee is the 9-ball Silver Medalist in the Asian Games. I remember reading somewhere that she trains in Taiwan.

Know where you're coming from, but there are sixteen foreign non-WPBA invitees to the pro event at the BCA Open every year, and they are, and always have been, the stars of Europe and Asia. When Jasmin Ouschan won the event last year, it broke a roughly ten year drought in which not even one of these even reached the TV round, although Hsin Mei Liu has come within a match of it twice.

I'll give credit where credit is due, as the internationals non-WPBA players are certaininly shining bright at this year's WPA Women's World championships, but any suggestion that the WPBA isn't the indisputable testing ground for champions is very premature.

Nonetheless, your comment that one's WPBA ranking doesn't factor in the fact that a few others may be counted among the best is dead on.
