She's fluent in Fookien or Mandarin? What was Ga-Young Kim speaking in the interview? Sorry for the "a bit" comment. She speaks "a bit" of English as well.

Mandarin. Why can you know the most taiwanese speak Fookien and Mandarin?

Oh yeah, speaking of Korean players. No Yuram Cha and Bo Ram Cha. Wonder what happened to those two.

Yuram Cha and Bo Ram Cha aren't famous in asia. In fact, in my opinion, the best korean players are Kim Ga-Young, Hyun Ji-Won and Jung Sung-Hyun.

Pan Xiao-Ting's coach is the former taiwanese pro player, Ga-Young Kim and her young sister have stayed in taiwan for many years. She can speaks "very fluent" Chinese, not only "a bit", and we always call her a language talent. I think Lui, Pan and Kim are all taiwanese favorites.

and almost the exact same time she was learning Mandarin, she made trips to the US and learned English!! She speaks very well though still not good enough for her but a talent indeed!! Not to mention just plain smart. GO Miss Kim!!

Lol. :D I know a few phrases in Mandarin. And most Chinese based in the Philippines are Fookien speakers. I know how Fookien "sounds". Most Taiwanese have an easy time in the Philippines because it's easy to find someone who speaks their language. :P

You never know when this info is handy when you're a promoter wanting to invite players like Ga-Young for a tournament here. Although I think it's easier to find a Korean translator here.

Scoring on the competing round

I am a little confused here. How is it that H.S Comet Lau from Taipei is not in the Semi's and Kim White is when in match 132, during the single elimination competing round, Comet beat Kim 7-3? Please anyone have any info on this?

Thanks,

Thanks,

John B said Kim won and i assume that was from first hand knowledge so the White score must be an error.

live streaming coverage

What time will it start (US eastern time)? The first match is between G. Kim and Amit and I want to watch it.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Game 1

GY breaks and makes the 1 and 2 - has 3 in the side. Makes 3 and four but blows position on the the 6. Bnks the six two rails for an open table safety.

Amit can see the whole six but has no shot. SHe tries to hid behind the nine but puts the cueball on top of it. GY is in a tough spot having to bridge over the 9. She misses nad leave Amit on the 50 yard line with the cueball near the end rail.

Amit rattles the pocket but the six drops and shes in good shape to take game 1. She has that long Filipino stroke we are so familiar with. No problem and she clears up 0:1 Amit.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 2

Rubilen makes a ball and cannot see the one. She is pushing out. Ga Young will not give this safety opportuniity back. GY misses the safe but leaves Amit long with a touchy cross table shot.

Amit misses and gets fortunate to tie up the one and only leave GY a porttion of it to hit. There is a little touch safety here if GY wants to risk it. GY can see the whole one ball. The combo 1:4 might be on,. GY plays a two way shot and leaves Amit the 3 in the side. The layout is still a little tricky and Amit runs into the 3 and ends up with a severe revere cut to the corner.

Getting to the four is dicey. Amit locks up the cueball behind the 9 instead. She looked like a one pocket player in the way she flirted with the scratch to get the cueball behind the nine.

GY misses the kick shot. If the four is not blocked this rack has no problems left. Amit gets too straight on the four and has to stretch for the shot and take a slightly worse position than she wanted. Back in line on the seven and it's two stop shots here. And just like that it's 0:2.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 3

0:2 Amit

Amit makes the two ball and can see a backwards cut on the one. The four ans six are tied up. Amit wisely chooses to play safe and puts GY behind the four.

The World Champion looks great and is intensely focused. Rubilen's coach said that Amit trains 6 days a week.

GY kicks and hits the one. Leaves Amit a shot at the one. 4/6 are still tied up. Amit gets tough position on the 3 and misses the three but gets a good roll and hooks GY again.

GY slow kicks tow rails and puts the 3 against the five. Amit has a window but can she get through it? It looks very tight from this angle. No she is kicking at it. Great two rail kick and GY is safe again. GY can see a tight 3-5 combo but will she shoot it? YES. GY ends up with a fairly straight 3 to the corner or a dicey cut to the side. The side pocket shot takes her towards the four-six.

She misses the side in what looked like a half-hearted attempt at a safety. Amit is left with a bank shot that Freddy the Beard would need his own book to make. Amit banks the 3 into the cluster and almost leaves GY dead safe. But GY has a rail first shot on the 3 that she misses.

The 3,4,6, and 7 are all clustered in together. Amit plays a short draw safe putting the CB behind the seven. It pays off as GY misses the kick shot. If Amit doesn't play one pocket - SHE SHOULD! The balls are now all opened up and if Amit doesn't blow position she should be out here.

She is a little hesitant as to where to place the cueball to start her run. She gets a little funny on teh four and plays to run into the 8 to get in line for the 6. No problem though and she is back in control. Nice stun draw and it's 0:3 for the challenger!

:) It is because most chinese in taiwan and the EastSouth Asia were all from Fujian Province of China. Chinese in Hong Kong and Malaysia speak Cantonese, many taiwanese also speak Hakka and others, Pan Xiao-Ting speaks Shanghainese......,but Mandarin is their common language.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 4

0:3 Amit.

Ga Young has a pout going on. With good reason as she is being outplayed at this point. The audience is full of serious faces.

Rubilen comes up dry on the break. GY can see the edge of the one for a tough cut or a kick stop safe. She goes for the cut and misses. Amit can see the one downtable and it's a natural path towards the 2. WOW she hits it a hundred miles and hour and comes down and bumps the two for shape. What a touch this lady has!! SHe just slow spins the cue two rails for perfect shape on the three.

In true Filipino style she is not afraid of any shot. The cueball rolled a littel far for position on the six but she's in good shape anyway. Makes it no problem. And is in line for the 7, 8 and 9. Rubilen goes up 4 to 0.

Earlier it was overheard that "the Filipino girl had won". She's not that Filipino girl now and they definitely know her name.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 5

0:4 Amit.

Amit breaks and makes 2 balls. CB in the center of the table. She can see the two ball. HAO CHO. This means good shot and it's what is heard on Rubilen's every other shot from the commentators.

She's a little tricky on the four to the five, stretched out over the table. No problem - two rails in the corner and out and she is back in line. The five thinks about it for a second before falling. The 8 and 9 are routine from here. And it's 0:5 against the World Champ.

First time I have seen Rubilen Amit play and she is simply delightful to watch. Very impressive performance. I never would have expected this huge lead over the world champion. She is putting on quite an exhibition!!!

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 6

Rubilen uses the whole pocket effortlessly. She really has the Phillipine style going on.

She makes a ball on the break but ends up on the top rail with the CB and the one is in the middle of the table. She can play the one to her left. She slow rolls it dead perfect into the pocket for perfect shape on the two. She is in dead punch right now.

The 3 is close to the five. She can draw the B back or bump the five. She chooses the draw and is in line. The only tricky thing left is the path from the seven to the eight but that shouldn't be a problem at this level. Amit follows the six one rail for perfect shape on the seven to take the natural path to the 8. She is a little straight on the 8 and we see the first mistake. She underhits the cueball and ends up on top of the nine. The bank looks on though. I predict she will go for the bank at this point.

She is thinking about it. With these pockets the bank is the shot. She tries to paly safe and put the nine on the other end rail. Leave GY with a shot in the side but he nine appears to be on the wrong side of the pocket making the shot tougher. GY hits it at warp speed and avoids the scratch!!!!

Ga Young Kim is on the board 1:5.
