2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 7

1:5 Amit

Ga Young makes a ball but is hooked on the one. GY pushes the cueball up table. Rubilen has a shot that is down the rail and she is goign for it. Nails it and gets position on the two. The table layout is a little funny but nothing is tied up. The hardest part here is getting from the four to the five. Amit reverse draws the cueball to get on the right side for the four. She's in line from here to get out easily. Gets a little straight on the 7 and stuns the cueball down table for good position on the nine. Now it's 0:6 and Rubilen Amit is on the HILL.

Time out for a commercial.

What did all these young women guns hatch at the same time? Amit, Pan, Jasmine, and Jans, to name a few. Their coming out of the woodwork all of a sudden. Womens pool is going to get a lot bigger fast. Johnnyt

Amit did not even come close to winning the women's side of the Philippine national championship held recently!!! So this means there are other good women players over there.

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 8

1:6 Amit.

The crowd is stunned at the manhandling (womanhandling) that Ga Young is getting. Rubilen is calm and composed slouching in her chair waiting to play.

Hands are clasped in prayer around the arena presumably hoping for another chance for Ga Young.

And here we go back in action. The referees are very professional here.

All right Amit to break - makes a ball and can see the one but must play safe. Amit plays a weak safety allowing Ga Young an easy one rail kick. The five and seven are tied up in this rack. Ga Young is going to the jump cue instead of taking the easier kick shot. She almost makes the ball but leaves Amit clear shot.

Ga Young could have put Amit in trouble had she chosen the kick-stop safe instead. As Grady always says, "don't shoot a shot you can lose on". There was no reward with the jump shot. Amit gets funny on the 3. She is finally showing a little nerves and has a slight hitch in her stroke here. She has a great opportunity here to make the three and break out the five. Or she can play safe behind the cluster. Instead sshe chooses to duck by leaving the CB on the end rail and the three near the side pocket blocked by the four.

GY hits it easily with the jump shot and leaves Amit safe. Now there is a 4:9 combo on the table and Amit makes the kick, makes the ball, AND SCRATCHES leaving the 4:9 gift to Ga Young. Amit had control and chose the wrong shot.

2:6 Amit

Ga Young Kim vs. Amit Rubilen Race to 7 Game 9

GY makes a ball on the break. She has a shot on the one ball and a relatively open table. SHe just needs to get on the two and she rolls to far. GY tries to hide the CB behind the 9 and leaves Amit a full ball but no pocket.

Just like Efren I have no idea what shes trying. :-) She tries to hook GY behind the 5 and leaves a full ball with no shot. GY tries to play a two way and leaves a clear long shot. Amit plays it soft to get position on the three - nice touch. And she is back in line with five balls left.

The nerves are showing as she misses the FIVE!!!! But she gets lucky and hooks Ga Young behind the six. GY plays the rail first with perfect speed and gets great shape on the six. AND THEN SHE SCRATCHES IN THE SIDE going to the 7!!!

Can Amit hold it together for two more balls? She does and Ga Young concedes the final nine. A verifed UPSET and the first invasion of the Phillipines on the female side of pool.

Amit will be here soon for an interview - send your questions now!!

The reign is over for Miss Kim. She was soundly defeated-outsafed, outpotted, outbroke.

Rubllen Amit wins 7 to 2. WOW. I am surely going to watch her semifinal match at 4:10 am US eastern time later. After watching Amit, I can now conclude that her earlier win against Fisher was not a fluke. Beating Allison and GY Kim puts her confidence level sky high now. She is now my favourite for the title.

Jasmin emerged long, long ago with her 7th place finsih at the 2002 WPBA Nationals. Jans, one of the most elite snooker players in the world for a few years now, made her presence known in pool in 2005 with a top 10 at the BCA pro event. She also reached the knockout stage of the super-tough Amway Cup that year. She has also had some very strong finsihes in the European Championships. If memory serves, Pan made a big run in the 2005 World championships (or was it at the Japan open?) and backed it up in 2006 with a great year on the WPBA tour, finishing the year ranked 13th.

To me, the only one of these that has come out of the woodwork is Amit. I agree with you completely that the continued emergence of these outstanding players has imporved the landscape of woemn's pro pool.

Can you ask her what she ranks herself back home? If she's not the best they have...who is then? Johnnyt

Tell Rubilen that Father Alaurin and all the UST (University of Santo Tomas her alma mater)Priests are/were praying for her. Send her their regards. :)

Ask Rubelin, If she wasn't distracted by how beautiful GYK is? :D

Mentioned to her that this is Jhun (Blowfish) from EPT Stiradors [Stir-ra-doors] Cup. She won the tourney last year that we setup in Efren's Magic Makati.

Still, with a first at NC, a third at Michigan City, and a fifth at the WPC, it sure seems that Ga Young is in solid form this year, and may be poised to have her best year yet as a professional. Wishing her good luck for the remainder of 2007.

You call it coming out of the woodwork but they have been there all along. They just dont play here due to the great difficulty for them to get through the qualifying process in the US. They have to chase around the whole Country mostly to out of the way hicksville -not easy to do when you have zero idea about it and don't speak the language.

Imagine arranging an 8 city trip to China where the cities are not your choice and they all are in podunk land. You don't know anyone and you dont speak the language. Good luck!

Thank you for the tournament coverage John. Can you please tell Bingkay Rubilen) that her Tito Ed, as well as all her EPT co-members, are so proud of her. Thanks John.

Haminishi 1-0. Game 2 she breaks and has a hanger on the one- not much of a cut and she misses the whole ball!!

Yes, it's tough but it's what makes the WPBA the toughest tour. There are no walk ons.

Rubilen said that she just finished third behind her teammates Iris Ranola, and Mary Ann Basas. She feels that all three are close in skill.

I didn't do an in depth interview because of consideration for the fact that she has more matches and needs time to get ready.
