2007 Amway Women's World 9-Ball Championships

It is looking more like a Pan vs Rubilen final with Pan as the favourite. However, I would not count the Filipina out yet. She has been a revelation in this tournament and win or lose she has made a name for herself already.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 12

Pan breaks and makes 2 balls. Has a shot on the two for a 2:7 combo. She misses and leaves the two hanging in the corner for Tsai.

Tsai's only problem here is getting on the six ball. She lands in good postiion to go one rail up table or two rails around to get to the six. She chooses to try inside english come up one rail and runs into the nine and ends up hooked on teh six. Kicks and hits the six but leaves Pan a shot with natural shape to get to the seven. Pan comes up a little short and so will need to work harder as she is on the wrong side of the seven. And she gets punished for the sloppy position on the seven by going long on the position for the nine. Now it's a bank which SHE NAILS!!!! She obviously read the Beard's book.

8:4 Pan's on the hill and breaking.

Pan Xiao Ting vs. P.C. Tsai Game 13

Pan comes up dry again. And leaves only the chance to play safe for Tsai. Tsai plays a nice touch safe and leaves Pan very close to the six. Pan is measuring the kick and misses it by a ball.

Tsai has ball in hand for the first time in a long time. The two is a little tricky and it appears as if she has played for a 3-3 carom she did and missed it but the two then caromed off the nine and went in the corner. Dicey three here and she misses it long in the corner. Pan has a clear shot but nust work to get shape on the four. She draws it out just right and is back in line.

Almost a Cosmo from here. Medium speed follow for shape on the 7 gets on the wrong side of the seven and must draw to the other side for shape. No problen though and she is the next finalist!!! 9:4

China vs. the Philippines for the World Title!!!

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 1

Here we go, race to 11.

Pan wins the lag. Both player look focused and composed. Pan makes a ball on the break.and has a shot on the one. She overdraws the to blow shape on the two. Now she is faced with a bank which she goes for and leaves the two hanging in the opposite side for Rubilen. Rubilen goes long as well and hooks herself on the three. She misses the kick shot. The adreneline is probably peaking for these two ladies right now.

Pan is running out easily. 1:0 for Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 2

Pan SCRATCHES on the break!

Rubilen has an open table and 8 balls to go. She comes up long on the four but it is no problem and she is quickly back in line. She runs out like the champion she is. 1:1

The recent string of domination by Xiaoting Pan suggests she may be in some of the finest form ever seen in women's pro pool.

In knockout play (meaning loser goes home matches) Pan's last seven efforts in competition are as follows:

A 9-4 win over Hofstatter at WPBA Michigan City
A 9-4 win over A Fisher at WPBA Michigan City
A 7-3 win over K Fisher at WPBA Michigan City
A 7-2 win over Thornfeldt at WPBA Michigan City
A 7-2 win over Webb at the World Championships
A 7-3 win over K Fisher at the World Championships
A 9 -4 win over Tsai at the World championships

This represents one of the most impressive runs of brilliance in the history of women's pool. Seven blowout wins in a row over very elite competition!

Needless to say, Amit Rubilen is playing superbly, and surely has a chance to walk off with the title, but, then again, we may be watching the emergence of Pan as one with a chance to become one of the all-time greats.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 3

Rubilen makes a ball on the break and gets a shot on the one. Getting to the 2 is a little tricky. And she just bumps the five in front of the two. She kicks the two safe. Pan can see the edge of it but that's all. Pan gets the double kiss and a fortunate roll to leave Rubilen safe.

Back after a few shots and Pan misses the long two and hooks Rublien with the six in the way. Rubilen spins the balls to manufacture the angle for the kick and gets the hit but sells out the two. Pan is in line now with a clear table.

1:2 Pan

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 6

Sorry Filipinos! Was in a conversation with Wendy Jans :-)

It's now 2:3 for Pan. Rubilen scratched behind the nine on a 3 nine carom.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 6

Pan breaks and comes up dry. Rubilen shoots at a one nine combo that is a flyer. Pan ha a long shot on the one. SHe makes it and threads the needle to get shape on the two.

Back in line with an open table from here. SJM Pan is defintely one of the greats. She moves like a ghost and almost always plays the right shot.

She is the kind of player where it's a true surprise when she doesn't run out. now it's 2:4 Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 7

2:4 Pan Xiao Ting

Pan puts the one in the side again. Her nickname should be "Sardo Rack" Pan because that's how she makes it look. She has a shot on the three and comes across the table for perfect shape on four. Another Cosmo.

And it's 2:5 for Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 8

Pan breaks in the one in the side and has a cut shot on the two. She slices the two in with no problem but comes up a little funny on the three. Pan chooses to play safe and puts Rubilen in jail behind the five. The kick is not too difficult though except that she has to stretch across te table. She tries to tie up the 7 instead of shooting at the kick shot. That's just silly against a player of Pan's caliber and smacks of desperation.

IN the USA we'd say "Oh Bullwinkle, that plan never works". Xiao Ting Pan is running out. The eight and nine are frozen to the rail and Pan plays perfect three rail shape to get perfect on the nine. 2:6 and the match is slipping away from Amit.

2:6 Pan

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 9

Pan breaks and the one DOES NOT go in the side. But she makes two other balls and has a clear shot on the one. However she is a bit straight to get to the three and must take difficult position for the 3. She is looking at a long off angle shot on the three. Pan rattles it in and bumps the four to the rail. Hse has a good shot on the four and should get back in line here. Almost scratches but stops short to be in line on the five. Nothing but nerves in the way here and she doesn't seem to have any of those. 2:7 Pan.

Rubilen Amit (PHI) vs. Pan Xiao Ting (CHN) Game 10

Pan comes up dry on the break. Rubilen has no pocket for the one. There is a one-three carom but she tries to play safe instead and gets a double kiss. Pan has a good opportunity to lock up the cueball or she could play the tougher cut. She goes for the cut in a two way situation and misses it but gets the safe.

Amit must kick. She misses and hands Pan a clear table. The only problem is the position of the five. If Pan navigates that then she's out. She came up short on the four and will have to get creative to get to the five. She tries to use the six but rolls on top of the five and is frozen to it.

She is looking at a kick to the five to try and kick the five into the nine ball. And she almost makes it!!

Rubilen has a shot. The table is open and she just needs to get in line on the six but she comes up short. The six is makeable but it's much tougher when you are down. She hits it perfectly and gets back in line. NO problem and shes back on the board with 3:7 and the break.

3:7 Pan.
