The day before I was just about to book my fixed flights to the states returning in June I saw this!

2007 World 14.1 Straight Pool Championship
Dates: July 8-14
Locations: Hilton East Brunswick, NJ

Looks like I have to add a month to my trip!!! :eek:

Well done Charlie, Randy(I assume!) and Dragon Promotions for bringing back Straight Pool!

Oh no that means over 5 weeks in the Riviera hotel in Vegas inc the BCA and VNEA! (I might have to get a job in the buffet lol :confused: )

...and for those of us without an "invite" to the big show...I heard a Maryland qualifier is in the works for early April.

14.TheOne if you need to "work" the month of June, the Tiger tour has 2 Maryland events June 2/3 and June 16/17 (see http://www.TigerPoolTour.com). The Blaze Tour has June 10 and 24 in NJ and PA. All 9 ball events and all within 3 hours drive of the World 14.1 event.

Quite a few straight pool players that would be up for a challenge match in MD as well.

That's fantastic news! I'm glad people with the power and resources are keeping straight pool in the spotlight where it deserves to be.

That should be a great tourney to go see!....with my stellar 30 or 40 ball runs, and 2 hours of play a month lately, I'm not going to embarrass myself.

I do look forward to meeting some of you all. It's nice to be back up in the N.E....the land of 14.1......but this friggin "0" degree sh*t has GOT to go :)
 
Yes, the event is going to take place again, at the same hilton hotel in east brunswick Nj.

Dates are July 9-14th (the 14th being thorsten's b-day, perhaps a repeat?). July 8th is the players meeting. Thorsten has been with me in NYC for the past few weeks, hitting em real strong. Ran a 195 on me without one tough shot.

This year, there is going to be 2 more qualifiers, one in texas, another in LA. Cali. This means 18 spots of the 64 are going to qualifiers. Top 16 from last year get an automatic invite back!.

That leaves only 30 invites for the rest of the world. Wish the field could be larger.......

I hope to see all of you there this year.

Woohoo I'm in <booking flights now>, I bought my table mainly for this tournament, so pleased it's happening.

I know the numbers are tight but it would be great if these players made it this year:

Just for the record Craig, as I can see where this might lead to.

Anyone interested or cares to know, I have nothing to do with who gets invited, or doesn't.

Last year I found myself embroiled in controversy over why certain people didn't get invitations, and I foolishly got involved in answering peoples concerns.

I am essentially the "bank" for this event. Nothing more. I don't set the format, don't sell tickets, don't pick the invitees, and I don't make the rules.
More importantly, I don't want to, and this year won't get involved at all, so don't ask. (sorry if this is harsh, but I am trying to avoid any hassles this year).

Would love to see you do really well this year craig, I know you have the talent......

I was there last year, and it was a great event, seating was wonderful for spectators. If you live in the area, what more could you ask for.

I'll be there again this year.

I have been wondering for a few months whether this event would come together again this year. Thoroughly enjoyed last years event. Seeing straight pool at this level live and in person is a special occasion for me.

Thanks Randy for helping to make this event happen again. Already planning to take the week off from work so I can attend. :)

Hi Randy, sorry didn't mean to bring any heat your way! I'm sure most sensible people realise if it wasn't for your bank this event probably wouldnt happen. I for one know I was furtunate to be included in the 64 last year but I'm pleased this year at least I earnt my sport the hard way.

I'm just looking forward to it, be nice to have a high run in comp though. Also be great to play Hohman of course. :D
 
First and foremost, Randy, thank you for bringing us this wonderful event again in 2007. Your continuing commitment to pro pool and, in particular to straight pool, is something very special. It is such a pleasure to take note of this here on AZBilliards, where so many who contirubute time, effort, and money to the game of pool reside.

When I look back at last year's event, in which the match between Hohmann and Schmidt is the one noone who was there will ever forget, I feel that it was a springboard event for each, as Thorsten would soon win at IPT Las Vegas and John would soon capture the US Open 9-ball title.

The 2006 World Straight Pool Championships brought back the magical play of the grand old days of straight pool and two acts of superior sportsmanship still reasonate loudly with me: 1) in the quarterfinals, Immonen led Mike Davis by 107 balls when Mike Davis got up and ran a 109 to briefly take the lead in what would prove his last trip to the table in a losing effort. Among those applauding at the end of Mike's superb run was Mika himself. He understood how much heart Mike had shown, and appreicated the effort as much as the fans did. 2) John Schmidt told several, and even posted here on the forum, that he felt honored to have been involved in the memorable match with Hohmann.

The superior play and exceptional sportsmanship made the event quite extraordinary. I'll bet Mosconi, Greenleaf, and Crane would have loved to participate, but from what I've heard, they weren't even invited!

I can't wait for this event!
