i think this will be m uch more useful to people to improve their game instead of me just putting out a tape where you watch me run 200-300 and fall asleep .this time i can explain many things much better.the first hundred i will talk through then i might keep going and see how many we get on film maybe over 300 if i get a little lucky.
John, that's very good you decide to make it this way. If it goes okay after, say, a 100, you could concentrate on your game more and just continue the run - and occasionally explain some points you feel important (like early cluster management, or vital key ball or position). Happy shootin!

one of the posters mentioned that i should do a run where i explain my thoughts through the run and give you every option and detail and then you would understand why and how i shot every shot.bill and i talked about it and i think im going to do just that.we start filming on the 7th and will be done on the 10th.i think this will be m uch more useful to people to improve their game instead of me just putting out a tape where you watch me run 200-300 and fall asleep .last dvd i had to talk as fast as i shot because it was a voice over.this time i can explain many things much better.the first hundred i will talk through then i might keep going and see how many we get on film maybe over 300 if i get a little lucky.

Sounds like a good way to upset your rythum and shark yourself, but, hey who am I Mr 67 talkin to Mr 400:eek: . Kudos to you if you can pull it off:D

Today I played a lot of straightpool. I got a new high-run of the year, but still nothing impressive... Today's runs, over 20: 36, 29, 28, 28, 26, 24, 22, 22, 21.

I have actually started to enjoy playing 14-1 more and more. Hopefully I will beat my high run of 49 soon...

High Run

Today my opponent missed the break ball but split the rack wide open and I ran out the rack :D !! Then I missed the break ball but split the rack wide open  !!
Still not a bad day he only beat me by 26 and I usually lose by at least 50.
This makes my high run for the year 14 :D .
Lookout Blackjack I'm gunning for your high run LOL.
Seriously I want to thank everybody who posts on this forum. The information is invaluable for a hack like me.

Excellent, John! Truly something I look forward to buying. And I don't think I'm alone. You can make a really unique contribution to the library of straight pool instruction with this. And a person only has to watch one Accustats straight pool match with commentary from other world-class players to realize that there is no one way to run the balls. Half the time the commentators are confounded by the choices the person at the table makes when running the balls. It's one of the reasons it's such an interesting game.

The fact that you have had such great runs means that you think in a special way and probably in a way that's unique to you. Crane, Rempe, Sigel, Martin, Mizerak, Mosconi, Reyes, Schmidt and every other great player all see things differently.

In my opinion, the more you talk before shooting the better the DVD will be. And another thing. You've established yourself as a master of straight pool with, among other high runs, that run of 403. Anyone with anything bad to say about the way you choose to run your balls is not being open-minded to the complexity and individuality of the game. So go into this confident that what you have to teach is as valid as any other teaching from masters past or present.
Have fun with it. It's going to be great.

Jeff

John-at one time didn't you consider one pocket your best game? Personally I'd buy a 1p instructional tape with the same kind of narration.

my meager 2008 high run

and all time high as well:

21 in January but I am playing in a league every thursday and plan on hitting a new high!

.i hope to help keep one of the best poolgames alive and will let you guys know when the dvd is done

one of the best? THEEEE best!:p
I look forward to buying a copy of this too.
Good luck!

Stuck on 9's

I'm stuck on 9 count runs. My shots are more consistent and becoming more methodical with practice in mapping out the table and cue ball control, but I can't seem to get past the nines.

NEVER GIVE UP! NEVER SURRENDER!

Finally a decent game of 14.1 (well decent for me anyway) yesterday.
Got to 75 in 7 or 8 innings and made a high run of 35.

best league match

I just can't get past that damn 40 - guess I'll run pretty loose and continue like forever, when I finally make it...;-)
At least I had my best competition match so far on saturday:
trailing 30-50 after 8 innings, I ran 27, 39(ouch!) and then the remaining 4.
Later in the evening I had another 37 in a practice match.

Watch out for the news of how long exactly forever is...:D

Managed a 27 in league last night, about 5 off my best...that was a 13, break then 14, then missed break shot...and it was a perfect one too...you can't let up for a second in this game!

Had a 77 last night, trying to get ready before going to help with John's DVD.

Made 82 today! :-)

Got out of position to the 83rd ball, and got bad contact when trying to cut it in...
Welcome to AZ Straight pool forum, Line!
(Those who might not be aware of and be familiar with Google search, Line is a female pro player from Norwegia. One of the best European players.) What's your high run in 14.1 Line?

I think I was there for Line's high run! (Unless she's beaten it since.)

She ran a 116 at Amsterdam East, while practicing for the last US Open in 2000 I think. She claimed it was exactly double her previous best of 58, which was quite a feat.

I saw the last 70 balls or so and she ran them beautifully.

- Steve

It's still 116, made in New York...

She was playing me today when she ran 82. The first 40 balls I was sitting there hoping for a chance back at the table, but on the next 42 I was just hoping she would finally break her record.

The last couple of days I have been taping all my sessions at the pooltable, but since we only had time for about 1 hour of pool today I didn't put the camera on, even though it would only take me a minute.... Sorry for this guys... Would have been nice to have the 82 run on tape, it was absolutely beautiful, except the position for the 83rd ball where she almost scratched, and ended up with a funny angle.
