2009 AZB/onepocket.org Members Room at DCC - official info and rules

WBM- I'll be coming down from Ft.Wayne. Do you need volunteers? If so, when? I am flexible the for the duration (just had shoulder surgery and am off work). Let me know and I will plan accordingly.

Thanks, Cory

Is this the only thread that contains the address the checks go to?

Didn't we have a sticky last year?

Maybe it's not too late for a sticky in the DCC section?

I think a sticky would attract more people for sure! :p

It looks like I will be attending this year! Yay! I will send out a check for me and my road partner this evening if possible... so there're two more for you WBM!

For all those who haven't signed up yet, you'll be missing some grand times! Sign up now! :p

I'll be heading in on Tuesday and be leaving Sunday. I plan on renting a car, so I can make some water runs or something. I plan on staying at the Holiday Inn Express, so if anyone needs a ride, feel free to hit me up.

See you all there!

Happy New Year,

I realized I never mailed out a check so I just filled mine out and will drop it in the mail on the way into town.

This needs to be a sticky.

I honestly think the lack of response (30 people????) is partly due to lack of participation in the DCC forum where much of this is placed plus lack of visibility of this thread.

Sticky!!!!

I've talked to a lot of my friends who were ther last year that aren't coming because of the Casino Venue. Some may hopefully change their minds at the last minute.

Did you send in your $25?

Your money must be sent in by January 8.............

Send $25 to Steve Lomako and you get to play unlimited amounts of pool on the AZBilliards Room's tables all day and practically all night and sometimes all night. :D . That's a bargain.

Those who don't send in the dough, CAN'T play at all. :(

The $25 bucks for the room is one of the best deals there especially if you're going to be there for more than a few days. Also, the tournament matches are going to be scheduled so I would expect a lot more pros to stop by than previous years.

I just resent my check to the correct address. (typed in a 6 instead of an 8 previously. lol)

I really don't see people's reasoning to not attend this year because of the casino hosting site. Yes, the rooms are 20-30 bucks per night more than at the EW, but considering what an upgrade this will be facility-wise, I'm in for the change. Me and a buddy are staying (3) nights, so it will increase our costs about $100.00. I'm looking forward to more room for the tourney, more tables, better food (a major improvement), and a nicer environment overall. Per Greg's posts, the action room will be in full swing 24/7, as it was before. If people have a problem keeping their mind on pool instead of the casino, that's their problem. Sure, it will never be "the old" Derby, but consider what it can become with the backing of a corporation as large as the Horseshoe. Take a look at the photos on the DCC website of the tourney room. This is my favorite vacation of the year and I can't wait for the last week of January! See everyone there!

Ragbug, you make a lot of sense. The little extra money for a better overall environment (lodging, food, security, scheduled matches, and continued refinement of an already great annual event shouldn't discourage anyone from attending.

The Derby City Classic is kind of like Christmas. It only comes once a year and you never know what you will be doing next year. The DCC is the Johnson City of our era and no one should miss out entirely. It kind of grinds on you when you hear about all of the great players you missed seeing together at Johnson City way back when. :o

The International players make the Derby City Classic a wonderful event and the gamblers bet it up like there is no tomorrow.

Bump for a sticky! This is going to be a great event! Let's see if Efren can regain his One Pocket crown! :p

Does anyone know if they will have the bar tables back at the event this year? The mini tournaments were a great thing for a few spectators to get a chance to play. Plus I like the back to back mini's when I ain't playing.

I vote to Sticky this thread please.

I'm still working on some guys to attend. A couple aren't coming because the 3 Cushioin event wasn't included in the package, so the admission into the Derby is extra! Where as last year ..... entry in the 3C got you into the Derby for the duration.

There aare 25 entries in the 3 Cushion National Qualifier..... looks like they could have accomodated them again, or at least lowered the admission price for them.

Just my opinion, but I'm prejudiced! LOL

I believe I've seen it posted by someone and confirmed by Greg that there will not be any bar boxes at the DCC, only big tables......but quite a few more than in the past. Another one of the advantages of the new venue....more tables.

Thanks Ragbug. Would be nice for some of us Bar Table players to have some there. We only have 1 big table in town, unless you go to someone's house. Kinda hard to find somewhere to practice unless I drive 40 or 50 miles.

satman,
Just a note that this Spring Greg made it known that he was VERY interested in trying to have barboxes as part of the DCC - it definitely attracts the league players, and just makes it a more "inclusive" type of event. I'm not sure of the space limitations of the current venue; but I know he was looking for a venue that would allow enough space for bar boxes too. Hopefully the future will see bar boxes as part of the festivities.

I have slept this until now primarily because I wasn't sure if I was definitely going. It looks like everything is set for me to get to go so I will get a check in the mail by Monday at the latest (try to get it out tomorrow). I never do any playing in the room but 25 bucks isnt very much to support the cause. See you there.

Satman and Williebetmore,

There will be at least one 7 ft table for sure at DCC. It will be in the TAR PIT - more commonly known as the action room. I don't think there will be more than one though and it will primarily be used for ~ Action ! Anyone can play on it until someone brings it on with a hefty wager. At that time players are politely asked to give up the table to the likes of "Big Arm John" who adamantly will gamble only on BB... So here it is, BAJ! You got your BB! :p

Oh, anyone playing in the TARPIT are subject to be streamed live to all DCC fans world wide, so bring your A game:thumbup2:

Thanks again. I really wasn't looking for just 1 table to get into action. I don't gamble much any more. I might occasionally get talked into something. But I was looking at some mini tournaments, like they used to have upstairs. It's ok though, I'm still coming to play some. Maybe I'll get a little better draw this year and get a chance to get started. See you all soon. :)
