2010 in Review: What's a significant pool memory in 2010 for you?

Are you playing some now, Fran? That is wonderful. I'll be you are really enjoying it, getting back in the game. That Amsterdam Billiard Club sounds dreamy.

The best time of my life in pool was when I was actually playing. Today, I'm a railbird. I still enjoy sweating the matches, but it's not as much fun for me as it was when I was hitting 'em.

A few years ago, I tried to play some, and my muscle memory for stroking the ball was gone. My break was pitiful. I can remember trying to hit them with all my might, and the tip of the cue stick never made contact with the cueball. I came with a miss. How embarrassing it was. :embarrassed2:

Hope you share some of your experiences at the pool room with us. That would be great! :)

Yes, I am playing again. Nothing much to report other than I'm getting my butt whooped, but that's to be expected for now. But when I practice, I can hear all my past teachers who are now long gone, whispering in my ear and it's all starting to come back, and I think even stronger than before, which I'm excited about.

Right now I'm just enjoying the process. You should try to play again, Jen. Don't give up. Just do it for yourself, wihout the pressure of expectations. Just have fun.

2010 had a wonderful Memory for me.

The 3rd annual Chuck Markulis memorial tournament.
128 players @$50 each plus $7000+ added
Efren Reyes and Franciso Bustamante Top two finishers.
In a pool hall using 27 tables and a packed tournament room.
Streaming the event graciously provided by private indiviual.

I was the Tournament Director and had a wonderful Tournament staff that included Jay Helfert and Ken Shuman.

Power Outage that closed the room for 6 hours.

All of this in two days. Not one player incident.

Plus... all the money was paid in cash as soon as the players match was completed.

For me it was making it to Vegas twice for APA. First time for APA Singles Nationals and the 2nd time for APA Team Nationals. Met a number of AZB'ers at the Singles Nationals and had a great time, and came close to making the money (was up hill-3 and the guy came back, if I won that match I was in the money).

Also my wife and I won our first Scotch Doubles tournament together after numerous times in the money...

My most memorable moments of 2010:

Mosconi Cup in London. Jay is absolutley right in his earlier post it was an amazing 4 days. The crowd was unlike anything ever seen before, even at earlier York Hall Mosconi Cup's. The place was literally shaking with the noise of the crowd supporting Europe. A very nice touch at the end when the guys were getting their presntation, the whole crowd chanting USA, USA was pretty amazing. Also everyone concerned with both Teams and Matchroom were truly outstanding, they would stop and talk with us at the venue, in the Hotel or local restaurants. If Pool could be like this more often it would get the recognition and airtime it deserves.

Gem City at Marietta Billiards Club - Watching SVB absolutely destroy a very high class field. Meeting all the players, who were truly amazing people.

Thanks also to the Teams I play on, it is a pleasure playing for and with you all. To Peter at MBC, Terry our League Operator, Vic and everyone else there thanks guys for making us so welcome.

To all the Pro players we have met this year, you are truly a credit to your profession you have all been amazingly helpful and courteous. Special shouts outs to Dennis Hatch, SVB, Corey Deuel, Rodney Morris, Stevie Moore, Kelly Fisher, Allison Fisher.

Lastly to two very special people who we have spent a bit of time with over the past few months getting to know a little bit, Johnny and Melanie Archer.

Finding, refurbishing and finally playing on my dream table (custom 1916 Brunswick Kling) and ordering my first custom cue (Lee Peppers).

Cheers,
RG

On a personal note, getting to play 1P & banks with Buddy Hall.

In pool in general, the highlight for me was when Oliver Ortmann won the World 14.1 Championship. I was really rooting for him and felt very happy for him. My favorite European player ever.

Also my wife and I won our first Scotch Doubles tournament together after numerous times in the money...

That must of got the Monkey off your back:rolleyes:

I got my first table run. We were playing leagues and I was bartending and had to sub because one of my teams were short a player. The glory of it was the guy I beat was a master and his team gave him hell about being beat by a little girl. I am only 5' tall. It was priceless. I get warm fuzzies just thinking about it.
