2011 AZ Straight Pool Challenge!

I ran a 90 last night. Ended up missing an easy combo. When the que ball made contact with the ball it ended up skidding and I missed the shot. It was a thin cut with the first object ball and the ball to be pocketed were only 2 inches from each other. The ball to be pocketed was only 5 inches from the pocket. There was no way I could miss the shot. I never in my life thought it would skid out on me with a thinner cut. I couldn't believe how much it turned on me. I was only 9 balls from breaking my high run of 98.

On a positive note, I've been putting up 50 - 70 ball runs every night for the past 3 nights. My stroke feels great and my shots are dead on. I just need to put some time in and take advantage of this hot streak.

Side Pocket:

Nice! Nice run. I'm assuming this is on a 9-footer (as I recall you promising you'd get back to us on), vs. the barbox for which you posted a video of the 99-ball run on?

You bet, it was on a 9 foot gold crown. I find it easier to run on the 9 footer than the bar box. There is less chance of scratching and less chance the balls clutter back up on a strong break shot. I may just have to invest in a 9 footer. Any suggestions on the best brand to practice on?

Thanks

Finally something beyond 30. Ran 36 on Feb 9, missed an easy shot (as usually happens when playing straight pool) being forced to play stun shot for a slight forward roll because of demanding position angle on the next ball. That's the challenges I love facing in 14.1. I lost a friendly race to 100 but was pretty satisfied with my play. And a new high run for the year, of course.

Congrats.....The year is still young, and i wont be surprised to hear when you raise the bar for the year when you do it !!!

Okay, I'm not proud. My high run for the year up til today was 13. It wasn't an ordinary 13. My opponent, Half-fast Larry and I play our matches to 110. He missed a shot leaving him needing 3 to run out. I needed 13. I ran 13 and out.

Today, same opponent, I ran 15.

I am sure I can do better.

Nothing to feel bad about Dave, 13 is a good start and to do it with the Going Out scenario just makes it all that much better !!! and to top it off you add a few more right after that making it 15...WTG !!!

you will topple that real soon, i look forward to reading about it !!!!

-Steve

Keep it up Dave-- you ll soon topple your runs weekly :) and your average will increase, too.

keep shooting,

I'll swallow my pride and log in with a 13. It wasn't just an ordinary 13. I was playing my mortal enemy Half-fast Larry. We play our matches to 110 and we play all fouls. Larry missed a shot needing 3 to go out. I needed 13. I ran 13 and out. Hows that for playing under pressure.

Last year I had 2 runs of 28, one in practice which I have on dvd and the other in a match.

Sorry about that extra post. Don't know how that happened. I beat the 13. Again in a match with Half-fast Larry. I took the last ball in a rack leaving myself a good conventional side of the rack break shot. I made that and ran the rack for 15, leaving myself an easy side pocket break. I took my time and shot very carefully but over cut and missed. Might be awhile before I get that good a chance again.

I played a couple of games this year, had a 44 in there. I am going to try and play some this year, for the first time in many years.
