As I get time, I am going to be uploading some various videos of my experience at the 2011 Derby City Classic. Over the next few months, I am going to be spending a lot of time editing all my footage, in order to put together the project I went there to do.

I will be posting some other interesting videos over the next several days/weeks/months of other things about the Derby.

Episode 1 is a video addressing the walk from the hotel to the tournament room. It has me walking and also me riding the shuttle, to compare the two. I really apologize for the bouncy video when I was walking, but just hang with it for a few minutes until you get to me riding the shuttle and it's much better.

All of my video was filmed in HD 1920 x 1080 progressive 60 frames a second at about a 28,000 bitrate. I am choosing Vimeo to upload and will see how that goes. I have to re-encode down to 1280 x 720 at 30 frames a second interlaced at about a 5,000 bitrate. Total size of original files were around 1,000 mb and the end result was about 300 mb.

So quite a bit is lost, but that's how streaming works:D

Thanks for sharing that. I had heard about that so-called "walk." Well, now I can see firsthand what a chore that could be. On the one hand, for middle-aged folks like me looking to boost their metabolism, it's a good form of exercise, but if you're a competitor in a rush and must get to your match quickly, it could be brutal.

I saw a lot of pool peeps I knew from the vendor stands, Joe Salazar and Ralf Martinez, Joe the cue mechanic, Shannon Daulton sitting down in the hallway, and Earl Strickland sporting a green shirt practicing in the tournament room.

With the sounds of the balls cracking and people shuffling, I felt like I was right there. Thanks for sharing a cute pool video from the DCC. I look forward to more.

I made the walk many times while I was there and never took the shuttle, it did get tiresome after a bit but it was all worth it. Maybe next year I will be able to make the trip again, really am trying to go to SBE.

Everybody gripes about "the walk." But it is not what it seems and the first year the DCC went to the Horseshoe, 2009, I wrote in my trip report:

"Of course the other thing folks were beeching about was the walk to the hotel. It really was a haul, not unlike having to go through an airport terminal. But, I decided to time it one day and from my eighth floor room to the tournament area, it was only five minutes. It just felt like 15."

I agree, it "seems" like a lot longer then it is. But there is a plus, whichever way your going..... if you're walking to the tournament, you start to get all pumped about getting there and having fun and watching great pool, and if you're walking back, you're thinking about how good it is to be able to lay down and get some sleep:D

Cool video Red.

I have told my wife about "the walk" but now she sees what we are talking about. She said it is just another reason that I should stay home.

The walk itself isn't that bad but it inhibits you from popping in and out of the room like I used to enjoy doing at the Exec.

you know what Cali,... I also have heard about the "walk" from the hotel to the tourney area. Maybe for the "Pros" it is a *****, but for me it started out as a pain, but turned into a GREAT experience.

The first day for me......Friday, I sat and chatted with Mr. Buddy Hall while waiting for the golf cart shuttle. He is the most down to Earth regular dude you would ever want to hang with. The man sitting next to me on the shuttle ride was a guy named Fransisco.....yea that Francisco! :)

Day2... I was sitting on the waiting bench for the shuttle, and I said "HI" to the guy next to me......turns out to be Mr......banks himself.....John I won the last 2 years.....Brumback! Did someone say......."nice DUDE!....yup.....I have never met a nicer guy!

Even Tho the trip is long from the hotel to the tourney room.....you can make your whole week, I did!
