Is there a written statement about those events being cancelled? I assume it is because of the rut that the game is in, and lack of sponsors & money.
It's a compound fracture and not just one reason.
In the year 2014, pool promoters do not get an ROI on pro tournaments, so some have decided to cease having them.
Many regional tours and leagues have banned pro players from competing in their events, stating the other amateurs and social shooters don't want to play with the pros anymore.
As well, when Bonus Ball was in full swing, some of the Bonus Ball players could not afford to go to Tunica to attend the Ultimate 10-Ball Challenge *and* the Southern Classic. This was upsetting to the promoters who were putting on the pro-caliber events, so they figured why have them anymore if the pros do not attend. Also, in particular, Greg Sullivan' has hoped to make the Southern Classic one of four events a year to include pro players, creating a tour, but when the Bonus Ball pros did not want to attend the Southern Classic and preferred Bonus Ball, it was upsetting to a man who has supported professional pool more than most, to include giving them free entries, free rooms, and sometimes cash to help with expenses. I don't blame him one bit in this regard.
And, of course, as we all know, the BCA organization has turned its back on professional pool. They are supposed to be the organization to promote professionasl pool, but they decided amongst themselves to sh*t-can professional pool and instead vote each other as Industry Member of the Year and attend social events with banquets to celebrate how great they are as industry members. The BCA today is a travesty and a slap in the face to professional pool, and anyone who supports it should really take a long, hard look at what they have created and how they have KILLED professional pool by their actions. Billiard Congress of America? More like Billiard Pigs of America.
So there you have it in a nutshell.
