2014 Southern Classic/Tunica Cancelled

Tunica has nothing for anyone-no food, no scenery-Mosquito hunting is good-but thats about it.

It has NOTHING for the single guy for sure. I am being totally honest when i say i was there 10 days and other than a players gf, there was not one attractive female there the entire time. When i got back home, the first 10 secs in a grocery store, I saw 4 ladies who would give anyone in Tunica the 6 out in looks. Dead serious-it was unreal and Mississippi IS officially the number one State for obesity and you will get no argument from me.

When i went to the DCC for the first time i learned despite the Mint Julips, book info and all, Louisville Is NOWHERE NEAR THE SOUTH! It is evidently somewhere north of Canada. I ran into a vicious blizzard there one year and an Ice storm another year and 18-28deg temps most other years.

dang man if you wanted to do something besides pool while in tunica you shoulda made a thread about looking for things to do.

we coulda met up and i woulda took you 30 minutes north to beale street. we coulda watched the skinny gorls dance on the bar at coyote ugly and if that did not tickle your fancy i woulda took you to the gold club and watch some strippers.

There is no Harrah's in Detroit.

The Harrah's (Caesars) is in Windsor, Canada across the river.

They had a couple of WPBA events in Windsor way back when but didn't draw 2 dead flies to them.

I don't want to correct you but that would be 2 dead flies plus my wife and I. Actually, the turn out for the one I attended was quite good, the event was really enjoyable and the hotel, restaurants were reasonable.

I was there too

And with Stu (sjm) that makes four.

A few of us from Detroit went to see the girls also, we're friends with quite a few of them.

There just wasn't many people there.

The events they had were nice, they just didn't draw a crowd...definately not a gambling crowd and thats what the casino wants...hence the reason the WPBA is no longer there, the casino is not going to put up what they did and NOT get a return on their investment.

Kind of why there are no more WPBA events anywhere...no return on investment.

Casino Windsor is a very nice clean casino, has an awesome hotel, great food, right in downtown Windsor where its clean and safe all night long.

I think it would be a great place to try and do something again, it would have been better here than in Tunica the same time of year but you have to go where they want to try and work with you and if it doesn't work out...try another place.

Harrah's had a big break at the first DCC in Southern Indiana with the ice storm and we were all trapped there. They wouldn't have done anything that week and they knew it.

It didn't take a genius to see we were the only ones there that week and ran them out of food and drink and kept the hotel full and people on the boat.

So it helped Greg alot to get some more extras from them but you can't hope for an ice storm every year.

They're trying to sqeeze every single dime out of everybody for themselves and its going to cost them in the long run.

They've been getting more and more controlling with the pool gambling which has been turning people off (Gaming Control excuse my ass, they can't control what goes on in the convention center, they just want us on the boat) and its just been getting too expensive for most people going there.

So now a pool tournament promoter, attempting to do good and get an event and tour off the ground, must worry about mosquitoes, weather, and the sex drive of the single man.

Unbelievable.

The food at ‘37 was excellent. I ate there a couple of nights over the course of two events and the food was outstanding. You should have tried it and pulled yourself away from Dunkin’ Donuts. And, if you're going to a pool tournament looking for love -- to paraphrase Johnny Lee -- you're looking in all the wrong places.

I had no advice for the promoter btw but your notion that a promoter shouldn't worry about the location and surrounding environment of an event is pretty uh...uh......unbrilliant.

Sure, he didn't consider the environment.

He just found a nice venue big enough to accommodate a big pool tournament, that had a variety of food available, with hotel rooms and security.

Shame on him for not ruling it out because of a few skeeters. And oh yeah: bad on him because the locals were not a certain percentage female and good looking. Good thinking.

Greg,

Truly sad news. Between you and Mark, most every major event for "pro" players (or players who think they are are) has vanished.

In light of your comments, I really think you should tell the truth. You really wanted one extra cheeseburger and couldn't afford it . Blame it on Chad or Paul.

Hope to see you at SBE. Stay in good health.

Even Donald Trump would have thrown up his hands and said "Tunica's FIRED!!!"

Them skeeters down there are so big they can stand flat-footed and still hump a turkey.

I was lucky, my blood is so cold they get "brain freeze" if they try to bite me. :groucho:

The women, on the other hand are the ones that I heard talking about the brutal bites they were receiving......some of them got severe bites, and there wasn't enough OFF in the area to keep them at bay.

I believe Greg, Diamond and everyone involved did as well as they could do with that location. Even Donald Trump would have thrown up his hands and said "Tunica's FIRED!!!"
