The Tenth Annual George Fels Memorial Straight Pool Challenge at Derby City will be taking place January 25, 2015 to January 31, 2015. The qualifying attempts will take place Sunday through Wednesday.

For every $100 paid in, the player gets 12 chances. There is no limit to the number of times they can enter. They rack 14 balls and take the 15th ball in hand and cue ball in hand and see how many balls they can run . The three high runs for each of the first 4 days are paid $300, $200, and $100 respectively. The high run of the event gets an additional $1,000.00. The high runs have been as follows:

2006 High Run: 139 by Danny Harriman;
2007 High Run: 160 by Mika Immonen
2008 High Run: 147 by Mika Immonen;
2009 High Run: 154 by John Schmidt
2010 High Run: 171 by John Schmidt;
2011 High Run: 183 by Darren Appleton
2012 High Run: 156 by Mika Immonen
2013 High Run: 117 (10’) Stuart Pettman
2014 High Run: 178 by Ralf Souquet

The players with the top eight runs of the four days then have a single elimination tournament. We will be filming all of the attempts and all of the matches. There is still a chance that the qualifiers will be live streamed, too. I will update this thread once that is confirmed. Usually the semis and finals are filmed by Accu-Stats, if they can be scheduled properly. A lot depends upon who our finalists are and where they are in the 9 ball event.

Last years results are as follows:

Top Finishers & Payouts:
1st: Dennis Orcollo – $3,000
2nd: Konstantin Stepanov – $1,500
3rd/4th: Huidji See, Alex Lely – $1,000
5th-8th: Ralf Souquet, Darren Appleton, Niels Feijen, Jayson Shaw – $650

Added monies for high run prizes.

Players who have confirmed for this year include John Schmidt, Mika Immonen, Dennis Orcollo, Alex Pagulayan, Alex Lely, Konstantin Stepanov, Ruslan Chinakhov, Evgeny Stalev and many others.

We had 45 entries last year which increased the prize fund to $12,500.00. We will work hard to improve our numbers this year. I spoke with Chad at Diamond today and he says he will try to do his best to make sure we get an extra table or two for the final day rush.

There is now $10,000.00 committed in added money this year.
We would like to thank our sponsors Diamond Billiards, Simonis Cloth, Aramith, Bob Jewett, Stu Mattana, Rich Klein and Stan Haines.

If anyone wants to make a donation to this event, money can be sent by check or money order to the following address with a notation Derby City Straight Pool:

Derby City Classic
4700 New Middle Rd.
Jeffersonville, IN 47130

or you can paypal to my account at gwtlaw@aol.com

We will be upstairs in the large room overlooking the arena that we had last year. Stop by and say hi. If anyone wants to volunteer to help for a while as a scorekeeper, let me know. It is a great opportunity to watch how these monsters take apart a rack.

Glad to see you continue this. If I ever make it to DCC I will donate my $100 and enter the challenge. Is there a booby prize for finishing last?

Will this be streamed for free & if so where?

As I said in the original post.

I will definitely be donating this year. My high run is less than 1000 balls though!!! :embarrassed2::thumbup:

Sorry I missed it.

I'm so greatly looking forward to any and all of the Straight Pool videos Dennis Walsh will likely be posting to his youtube.com account. What a dedicated and thoughtful guy to be doing that for fellow Straight Pool addicts here, and in most other developed countries.

John Schmidt would seem a cinch to garner some of several days' High Run cash prizes.
