Man, there's so many fun times this past year, and the year ain't over yet. If Corey and Shane and rise to the top in Qatar, that would be a very happy moment. Well, at least for this American gal. :p

I loved, loved, loved the Mosconi Cup. It's fresh in my mind, so that's got to be numero uno as far as favorite. :grin-loving:

With Matchroom Multisport becoming involved in pool, making it's debut in April 2019 with the U.S. Open 9-Ball Championhip, I am looking forward to 2019.

One other one, though, for me personally was seeing Keith McCready inducted into the One-Pocket Hall of Fame for Lifetime Achievement, along with Jeremy Jones for his lifetime achievements in One-Pocket -- and all games, actually. Players like Keith are truly the last of a dying breed. Pool is quite different today than it was in what I term as the "golden years" of the '70s and '80s.

What are your favorite pool moments, memories, or happenings in 2018?

My favorite event was the Supreme Pool Series. It put English 8 Ball firmly on the map, has generated interest way beyond what was expected, and on a personal level has given me tons of respect for a game that I thought was Mickey Mouse pool.

I've got two moments of the year, and since I'm struggling to separate them, I'll just mention both.

Melling's Comeback in the Derby City Nine Ball Final
This one had to be seen to be believed. John Morra was in dead punch and had just beaten Shane Van Boening to reach the final. Chris Melling had just beaten Dennis Orcullo in one of the best matches I've ever seen at the Derby. The final match was competitive early and Melling appeared about to go ahead 4-2, but he scratched on the seven ball. What came next was the stuff of legend, as Morra, after accepting Melling's gift to tie things up at 3-3, broke and ran five straight for an 8-3 lead. It looked all but over, but Melling decided it wasn't, winning the next six racks for a 9-8 double hill win to capture the title. Breathtaking!

Skyler's Victory over Albin Ouschan at the Mosconi
Setting the stage, Europe trailed by 9-6 entering the final session. They'd have to win five of the next six matches to pull off the comeback to win the Mosconi. Desperate for a fast start, they led off with Albin Ouschan, who'd played superbly through the first three days. His fine play continued as he broke and ran on his first four breaks, but Skyler was good enough to bring the match to double hill. The double hill rack is, perhaps the most exciting rack of pool I've seen in my 42 years of attending tournaments. Ouschan broke wet, but had to push, and pushed into a kick. Skyler gave it back and Albin played a truly masterful kick safe. Skyler had no choice but to bet the match on a difficult jump of the one ball. He made it, ran out the rack, and gave Team USA a 10-6 lead. It proved the knockout punch in the 2018 Mosconi Cup, ending Team USA's eight year losing streak

For me, it was attending Pat Fleming's International 9Ball Open in Norfolk last Oct. I was there the whole time, and saw some of the best international play that I've ever seen. It was an incredible tournament from start to finish, and Pat & Crew did an amazing job! I'm already looking forward to next year!

I have to agree, the Melling Morra match was incredible. Simply being there to watch it made me say I would never give up no matter how far behind I was in a match. I think of it everytime i fall behind in a match and I win many of them because of it. For Chris to get up out of his chair after nearly 30 minutes, wipe the sweat off Morra's forehead with a smile LOL and then go to work being down 3-8 was a true showing of great sportsmanship and perseverance. He made me a fan that morning!
