I commented on this earlier. I've shot with every set of balls out there and when those balls are seen on my camera they are difficult to distinguish. Changing the balls to different colors did not help the situation in my opinion.

Pat spends a great deal on his camera and lighting equipment to get the best possible degree of color, saturation, hue and contrast to make the balls look as real on television as they do in person. If we take all these variables and throw in a small 14" viewing screen the commentators watch the match on and couple that with aging vision, well you get the picture.

I appreciate Pat Fleming doing what he can to help out a past great champion of the game, and I don't particularly care if Danny's commentary is off at times. He won't be commentating for much longer as it is, so I can be patient.

That being said, I LOVE Jeremy Jones's commentary in One Pocket. If he's just as good in 9 Ball commentary, he gets my vote for Danny's replacement when the time comes.

The absolute cure for this is video tracking software that automatically labels the balls based off one tight zoom and color analysis, and then automatically tracks the balls as they fly around the table.

I would guess this would be fairly trivial for someone like Cleary to come up with for a small fee.

I am guessing the software is already out there and would integrate pretty easily. The effect would be similar to the old video techniques ESPN used to use where the commentator would push a button and the balls on the table would be overlaid with larger graphics of the balls in question. I am fairly sure that was more of a manual process back then, but with today's software, this would really be trivial to implement.

Got the evening session of the stream tonight. First match was perfect. Nice clear quality and no buffering.
 
Anyone has a right to conduct their business anyway they see fit.

But, usually, there are retirement parameters in all businesses. They usually take into account loyalty, performance, customer satisfaction, and revenue generated. I mean, even milk, which is generally speaking good for you, has an expiration date on the carton.

Over the years, I've bought, geez, I don't know, dozens and dozens of Accu-Stats. I still have huge piles of them in cabinets. But it's been awhile since I've bought any.

And the reason is: I can't stand the commentary on the 1pocket tapes.

So, Pat can do what he wants. It's his show.

Agreed, I like listening to Mark and Jeremy. Intelligent conversation and good analysis of the game, plus Jeremy slips in the particulars about the significance of the match. Both have good clear voices too!

As bad as much of the other stuff is, and a lot of it is real bad, this might be the biggest and most obvious cardinal sin in commentating. If a player is talking, shut the hell up. If the player/s ends up talking for five minutes (maybe they are arguing something or whatever the reason), then shut the hell up for five minutes. Not a peep. Whatever you have to say can wait. People always want to hear what the player is saying (or the ref, or anything similar) more than they want to hear anything the commentator might have to say at the moment no matter what it is.

Damn, Gibbs coming up next on the commentating for the final match. Guess one out of three ain't bad. Guess I'll put it on mute and watch the Lion chew on the Kaiser.
 
BIG difference in the commentary in the late match between Alex and Ralf. The two Bills are nice enough guys but already way too much chatter and too much guess work. When I hear someone say "combinated" my ears start burning. :sorry:

For two guys who are not highly rated players (like me) they refer way too often to what they would do or what they would have done. Not a good comparison when you are comparing yourself to a current HOF'er and one who will be a HOF'er some day. Better just to refer to other options and not talk about themselves and how they would play it.

They have yet to take a breath between comments. It's a non stop conversation with both of them vying for air time. Actually it's reminiscent of what we can expect from a streaming match. Fortunately the highly skilled players make it worth watching. I can see why someone would mute the sound though. Different strokes for different folks. I know I've been muted too! :thumbup:
 
Jeremy is the best I have ever heard in the booth.

Who is in the booth for Ralf and Alex? One of the guy slurs lots of words. Is he drunk? I think I just heard the other guy trying to wake him up. "Bill....BILL...BIILL"

just chiming in a vote for danny..he brings plenty to the table. pair him up with a stats/play-by-play guy and let buffalo rock!!
