This event being produced by Matchroom is scheduled of Feb.1-5, 2023, and still there is no location, entry criteria or other information listed. We're talking about only 6+ weeks away. Does anyone know anything about this event and if it is really happening? If it is being held in Europe somewhere, players wanting to come from overseas would need adequate time to make travel and accommodation arrangements. I see it on both the Matchroom and WPA calendars. Maybe they want to make this an exclusive event for European players only. Very unlike Matchroom here.

Maybe there are still some issues to clarify between Matchroom and the WPA, since the WC is the only event, which is still sanctioned by the WPA.

It does seem unprofessional, which is the last thing Matchroom are.

My bet would be there is some behind the scenes wrangling between the WPA and Matchroom, I could imagine a fall out over rankings and who should be invited etc.

Either way this is unfair on the player.

Looks like we got our answer. No surprise here. It's being held in Kielce, Poland, convenient for all the European players, not so much for players from Asia and the America's. $325,000 purse, with 60K to the winner. Shown here on DAZN if you care or dare to take a chance on their shaky stream.

It's always unfair to somebody, and since most great players are from Europe...

We have 1 person in the US who could win it, seems to me like the only event that should be in the US is the MC every other year. Imagine how much better the US Open would be without all the dead money Americans in it. The # of Euros that crush "the field" in the Open is staggering.

And yes, I get it, it's the US Open, just so much dead $$$

Hopefully no snow in Louisville delaying players getting out of there on the tight turn around :ROFLMAO:

Flights are not too expensive yet. About $1000 San Francisco to Warsaw and they will even let you take luggage.(y)

I imagine the hotels are pretty reasonable. A season pass is only $25.

Edit.... Well, kind of reasonable hotels. A top hotel downtown with breakfast is $391. Total for six nights.

$456 round trip from Chicago on LOT. Not much more than a domestic flight.

Will the convention center be shielded with Patriot defense missile systems?
