2025 DERBY CITY ALL 3 FINALS ON LAST SUNDAY THOUGHTS....

Diamond makes a great pool table. Doing anything resembling customer service or delivering a product in a timely fashion? I'm not getting my hopes up. I'm unclear on who actually runs the tournament itself, but the buck stops with Diamond.

I predict a repeat of the past couple of years where we get top 5 players like SVB completely giving up because they have been playing over 24 hours, or finalists who are too exhausted and not giving anywhere near their best performances. If the spectators are too exhausted to watch, the players certainly aren't giving their best.

In general, I love the idea of having a "Championship Sunday." Recent Derby City Classics have failed to build to a proper crescendo, and this should fix it, provided the first final begins early on Sunday eliminating the danger of going into the wee hours. on the final day.

That said, the challenge will be managing the schedule in a way that ensures that Saturday won't be a nightmare. Administrative changes are needed to ensure that the schedule is maintained over the first nine days of the event, and if the schedule is mismanaged as in the past two years, this can still go very wrong.

I applaud Diamond for this visionary change. I'm attending all ten days of the 2025 Derby City Classic. I can't wait!
At least one of the two players is going to have a cell phone.. Have the players self-report via SMS or app or something, with that tied directly in to the tournament software, so that the next match can be scheduled immediately. I get that the redraw after every round is an interesting way to do the event, but they really NEED to shell out a few bucks to get the match handling fixed It's one of the biggest event of the year, and they are still handling the software/scheduling of this event like they are a one person deep regional tournament director.

It could be as simple as software that generates a QR code per match, that links to a per-match web page that the players can update the score on in real time. This can add functionality to the match scroller with live scores, to generate interest when somebody is playing a top player and is performing better than expected. You print out the match score sheet, it has a QR code that you scan.. It goes to the match page.. You update scores.. When winning score is reached, it immediately reports back to TDs and frees up the table.

This s**t ain't rocket science.

To be fair, most televised tournaments have 4 or 5 sleeping in the stands with the rest on their phones looking at anything but the match 🤷‍♂️

This is very true.

It is a shame the spectators aren't aware, or don't care, that they are "part of the show." I have seen way too many videos/streams where a particular spectator or two, right in front, can't put their phone down, or are snoozing away, with world class pool going on right in front of them. I get the fact that you paid for the seat... but geez.

They love looking at that phone so much why spend the $$$ to travel and buy tickets...just stay home and watch on their phone

I think it is a great idea, but due to personal reasons, I don't think I will be coming back to Derby City Classic any time soon.

Bad Boys Productions still refuses to do the work to report full match scores to Fargorate, so as an American in Europe, who is interested in improving my Fargorate, I am basically wasting my time going to Derby, unless I find a way to do Salotto matches. Even though I absolutely love the event... I can practice 10 hours a day for months before Derby, play WAY my current Fargorate, get 5-7 games off some superpro (like I did against Chohan last time...) And the result is the same... I am losing a few Fargorate points due to a 0-1 game score getting reported to Fargorate.

They don’t even report results on results.derbycityclassic.com, their own scoring site. Good luck getting anything reported to fargo. But really, it is Derby City, who cares if they are reporting to fargo? Go to some other tournament for that.

If you have a wonky stroke switching games will be a problem.

But we're not talking about players with wonky strokes.

Anthony Meglino is the exception that proves the rule, sir....... And he's gotten deep a time or two.

Yeah kind of an odd thing to be the dealbreaker for someone but to each their own.

I am planning to. Thinking the side events at Internatiknal Open + Salotto matches with iusedtoberich..

Better location... Better run events. Prolly overall cheaper. And the side events report to Fargorate.

If you guys are interpreting this correctly, and they're going to make the banks and one-pocket finalists wait until Sunday to play, then this is the worst idea in the history of pool. Even worse than the purple 5-ball and the Sardo rack.

Lot of people plan their entire vacations and travels around just the banks, or just the one-pocket. Most are not going to extend their stay for days just so they can watch the finals of their favorite game.

Stupid, stupid idea.
That’s me, Dave. With my schedule, I’ve focused on the past on seeing the Banks finals through to the One Pocket finals, and often leave before the 9-ball finals. Probably because the 9-ball finals is always a disaster for timing.

This year, to your point, I’ve ended up scheduling my time to just seeing the finals weekend, which is fine, but I will miss some of the nostalgia of the DCC.

So, if one of the "finalists" has a buy-back left, there might be two finals in that event. Is it possible to have the last two players each with a buyback?

It's not clear but it seems that the only matches on Sunday will be the three finals. (Or up to six finals.)
Here we go again.
Hope not.

And this kind of sucks for seeing the gambling, as well, as the gambling matches tend to occur earlier in the week.
