2025 Premier League Pool player list

The moniker ‘premier’seems euphemistic when Filler is not in the field.
Yeah, I get it. No Filler. No Gorst, either. Not every all-star is in every all-star game for one reason or another.

I am OK with that. Filler will be back, and we will see him elsewhere. Not even sure he can play given the WPA-WNT dispute.

I'll be tuning in anyway. Plenty of great and upcoming players.

Think this event is always more interesting as a show case for some new players (and those new players take it seriously) than as a serious competition or elite event.
World pool masters is probably more of a serious attempt at creating a prestigious title.

when does this start?
According to wnttv.com, 11:00AM.

No idea what that h means, which time is correct, or what time zone these are. So in other words, if you pay to stream this, it is damn near impossible to determine what time it actually starts so that you can watch it.

EDIT:

The very latest MR Facebook item says 12 pm local, or Sarajevo time. So 7 am EST it seems.

There are 15 matches a day and none are played at the same time.

Last year, matches started at 11 am EST in Connecticut. First session ran till 3:30. Second session went from 5:30 to 10.

Yes, MR has not been clear. Need to do better in the future. Much better.

Not sure about that. WPM is 16 players, single elimination. Longer matches, yes, but the PLP is a gauntlet and the creme has time to rise to the top.

It's no wonder the last three winners of the PLP are SVB, FSR and Albin Ouschan. The only semifinalist surprise was Sanjin in 2023, all because of a blazing start. He faded down the homestretch. Oi made the semis in 2022, but can't call him a surprise.

Quick thoughts ahead of the PLP
*FSR has mostly blown hot since the Peri and Hanoi Opens last fall, but he cooled off in the Euro Open. Should have beaten Bongers and he made uncharacteristic errors. Which one shows up?

*SVB is a grinder and he’s well rested. Nuff said

*Chua played one of his worst games in getting ousted by Koyongian in the Euro Open. Most dynamic player in the game imo. Can he be consistent and play it safe when he needs to?

*Styer got an invite because Sky and Gorst were injured. He is not going to get a chance at an event like this again. Does his experience playing races to 5 in the Mosconi give him an edge?

*Labutis seems made for an event like this. Consistent, smart and strategic.

*Caputo has been solid since his surprise win in the UK Open last year, but he has not recaptured the magic.

*Eklent Kaci doesn’t seem himself. Looks like he’s lost weight - a good sign - but I wonder if he thinks he will never be as good again because of his injury. I still expect his brother’s presence to motivate him for bragging rights.

*Kledio Kaci seems to be steady and consistent in a way that his older brother always isn’t. I am not sure he will ever be as good as prime Eklent, though (see 2023 UK Open smashing of Filler in the final).

*Duong keeps getting better. His safety play and kicking have gone up a few notches. He has benefited more than any other Vietnamese player by playing the tour regularly and battling international players. Don’t bet against him.

*Newhausen is a rising star and just a pleasure to watch. Smooth player who doesn’t get too high or low. Still want to see more of a killer (Filler) instinct.

*Aloysius Yapp, 28, has played some of the best pool of his career since the Reyes Cup, but I keep wondering if he can win the big one. He has won the International Open twice in a row, but hasn’t really threatened in a big MR major since the US Open in 2021.

oh come on. WPM is double the prize money and a very prestigious event that goes back three decades. PLP is a novelty format slugfest.

i hope it does well and will continue, but as of now it's the least desirable MR invitational

All true, but WPM is still a single elimination event. A little luck goes a longer way. And it’s all about matchups.

Was thinking more because of the selection criteria, it's seemed to be more based on merit/ rankings e.t.c so the field itself for a small field invite only event , is stronger

Here was the 2024 lineup.

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz
Shane Van Boening
Fedor Gorst
Ko Ping Chung
Jayson Shaw
Joshua Filler
Albin Ouschan
Mario He
Ko Pin Yi
Skyler Woodward
Wiktor Zielinski
Dang Jin Hu
Michael Feliciano
David Alcaide
Bernie Regalario
Nguyen Anh Tuan

if you figured Hu, Feliciano, Regalario and Tuan were near the bottom you’d be right. Yet Alcaide was worst of all. Just one win. A Murphy’s Law week for him.

SVB beat Ko Pin Yi in the finals. Filler and Ko Ping Chung were the other semifinalists.

EDIT: Forgot Zielinski. Added his name.

Much stronger field last year!

I was able to watch this on my TV by screen sharing from my phone.

It would be wonderful if Matchroom had an app, but obviously the cost of this is too high for a new service.

It's a shame there isn't much of a crowd in Sarajevo, the event in Shaw's pool room seemed more viewer-friendly, as lots of people were sat around the tables.

But I understand that Matchroom needs to balance the books and Sarajevo have obviously paid a hosting fee for this event.

You are right. The field is stronger and the semis and finals are tough. Much longer races than the PLP semis and finals. The winner who gets through WPM final four is worthy.

But the first round matchups are more of a crapshoot. Last year FSR got James Aranas. Kaci got ... Filler.

We're taking on board all feedback regarding WNT TV, and we'll be discussing the possibility in the future of developing an app to make it easier to view on Smart TVs - this is just the beginning for the site!

sounds great. will this be a tv app or a phone/tablet app? a quick fix while developing an app is to add the opportunity to cast to chromecast

An app isn't currently in development so nothing to confirm yet.
Yes, you will be able to cast to a smart TV via:

Desktop browsers: Chromecast (Chrome) and AirPlay (Safari)

Mobile browsers: Chromecast (Chrome) and AirPlay (Safari)

Our full FAQ page should hopefully answer any other questions you have: https://www.wnttv.com/faqs

WNT TV works on Samsung TVs.

There isn't an app, but you just use the Samsung internet browser and then go to the website.

A bit clunky to login, but picture quality is good.
