2025 Premier League Pool player list

What is the cutoff structure? 16 players are all still left on day 5? The event info page stinks at the wntlivescores.com page. Zero info on what the format is.

Zero info on the format at the "event guide" on matchroompool.com either.

The 16 players are cut to 10 for Days 6 and 7. The 10 are cut to 6 for Day 8 (the last day).

After the 6-player round-robin matches on Day 8, the 4 players with the best records (cumulative for all 3 stages) play single-elimination (2 semifinal matches and the final) to determine the overall winner.

Down to 10.

I predicted Nhiet (Bui Trong An), Koyongian and Styer near the bottom. An was last (16th), Koyongian 13th and Tyler 12th.

Did not bank on Eklent Kaci finishing at 14th. He struggled, especially on longer shots. Just not the same player who crushed Filler in the UK Open a few years ago. Didn't look confident. Good news, to me, is he was angry at himself. Showed that he cared. Supposed to play a lot in the US this year to try to get back up to speed. We'll see.

Pijus Labutis was the only disappointment to me. Seemed to struggle with the tight pockets - tightest I've seen at a MR event since the UK Open. Got a second gear toward the end, but had an awful start that he just could not overcome.

AJ Manas finished 15th, but he actually played quite well. Needs a big boy break and better safety and defensive play, but what a talent.

I like the way Yapp is playing. He has impressed me these past 4 days.

There’s a reason for that.

This event isn’t about pool fans, the gate $, Matchroom making players money, streaming revenue, nope none of that.

Seems kinda weird, doesn’t it?

So why does this event exist? Is Santa Clause real? Inquiring minds want to know🤓

I’ll answer later.

the snooker equivalent, championship league i think it's called, is mainly for the bookies and the betting it seems. although the players like playing it and getting the tv table experience

100% right.

It’s for the books.

Maximin number of matches,

Short races so they get more matches and higher volitolity which is better for the books as well.

Theres not one thing about this that for pool fans. It’s all about the action it creates for the books. Which I have no problem with at all.

If people understood this they would answer their own questions about why there’s no schedule, updates/ etc.

Where is all of this bookmaking going on for PLP?

I like that strategy a lot, I don’t have access to the UK or EU betting sites. Do you think there is any attention to pool on these sites?

finally. when is the winner crowned?
Thursday.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the final 10 play another round robin of faces to 5. Then the field is cut to six.

On Thursday, the final 6 play another round robin in the morning. Races to 5. Two more players are eliminated.

On Thursday night, the semifinals play races to 7 to determine the winner.

Points are carried over from earlier rounds.

The internet. Loads of books everywhere.

Can't see any evidence to support Fatboy's assertion, but I don't have any evidence to say he is wrong, either.

All I know is, as a pool junkie, I like the event.

Get a chance to see players for an extended period.

You see how they handle the pressure of short races to 5. These races make the break even more important since it is alternate style. Better pocket a ball on your break.

You see how they handle the grind.

Most important, you get a really good feel for their total game.

The best part is the last day (Day 5) of the first stage. Nobody wants to be among the first six cut! Big difference in the intensity from Day 1 to Day 5.

the WNT to me is too young for betting on, although i've placed occasional bets in US open and W9C. it's not about player integrity either, i think most of this new crop of players seem honest and sportsmanlike (maybe they are milk drinkers 😉). it's just time, and prize money. give it more of both and i will feel more comfortable.

No chance in hell I'd bet on an event like this. How many bookies are actually pool junkies!

that's actually an edge for us vs the bookies. they can be pretty clueless. that too will change, if it hasn't already

but disregarding both the youth of the tour and the bookies' knowledge, betting on 9-ball races to 5 is pretty wild in itself

Some comments on the players, starting with the first six eliminated.

Kaci - Confidence is down and his game is not sharp. Not for a lack of trying, though. Still have to wonder how much the injury is affecting him, mentally more than anything.

Styer - Such great fundamentals but ... I keep wondering why he isn't better, and decision making seems to be the chief reason. He'd be much better if he just simplified his game. Gets in his own head, still.

Labutis - Seeing him so much made me wonder whether he is close to his ceiling. Very smart player who is among the best at getting position and staying in line. But he doesn't seem to have the extra gear - and the supreme shot-making ability - of the very best (top five) players.

Koyongian - Good, solid player, but didn't see anything special to his game. Not sure he can be much better than that. He is 27 and older than he looks. I think he needs to immerse himself in the WNT tour to get better. He needs to play top more players more regularly.

AJ Manas - See comments above. Future star IF he keeps his head on straight and works on his body. Needs to hit the weight room.

Bui Trong An - Did NOT look like he belonged at all in the first three days. Lost every game. Yet he seemed to get better as a player during the event. Buckled down, improved right before my eyes and won three games. Also came close in a handful of others.

The talent is there. Has some pizzazz to his game. But he would have to dedicate himself to the tour like Duong to become a topflight player.

The best five players the first five and a half days have been Chua, Capito, SVB, Shaw and Neuhausen.

Chua - Best player in the event until the last day of the first stage. Coughed up a 4-2 lead to Duong and missed a few key balls in losing 5-1 to SVB. Seems to have tightened his game in stage two.

What a player. Among the very best shotmakers in the game. You could make a highlight reel of the PLP just from his matches. Every game he seems to make a "wow" shot. Never seen a player use 3-4 rails so much to get better position on a shot.

Peak Chua imo is on par with Gorst, Filler and SVB. But he sometimes takes too many risks and is not quite as consistent.

Capito - The most consistent player in the PLP. Haven't seen him much since he won the UK Open, but he has shown me a lot. Seems to play with a chip on his shoulder. Can make all the shots and sometimes pulls off the spectacular. Just 22, and he's got the skill and attitude to be a top 20, and maybe, a top 10 player.

SVB - Didn't seem like he wanted to be there the first two or three days, then he buckled down. Was playing the best of all the last two days, then got whitewashed this morn 5-0 by Shaw. Hard to tell what his mood is.

Shaw - He and SVB, to me, haven't taken the event 100% serious at times. Just 98%. Shaw has been his usual self. Fast and brilliant shotmaking, then a puzzling miss. He's also whacked the ball more than he would in a big open.

Neuhausen - Stereotypically German, and I mean that in a good way. Technically sound, tactically shrewd. Very consistent. Excels at positional play and has a beautiful touch. Can pull off some spectacular shots, but I haven't seen it often.

Very good player. Still have to see if he has an extra gear to become a great one.

Was told via email now that fire sticks are not supported and to use a different device which is really disappointing, I want to support but think I have too cancel. Not sure how you launch a product that just won't play on some browsers/ device
Fire and Amazon are prolly only big in the US. I prefer watching on my ipad or streaming from my iPhone to my TV. Better experience than the browser.
