2025 Premier League Pool player list

Matchroom has been consistently poor in their web presence since their inception. They’ve omitted simple things like start date, matchups, etc for numerous of the previous events. This is hardly something new for the PLP.

Agreed. I think it is true for most pro pool events. Predator too, though not quite as bad.

The players who finished six through 10, I have a hard time seeing winning the event.

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz - FSR looks the same, but he’s been very inconsistent in the PLP. Just like he was in the Euro Open

Aloysius Yapp - Also looks the same. Good the first few days, then inconsistent.

Scott Frost actually said aloud what I was thinking: Is Yapp a victim of conditioning? I’ve long thought that about Yapp and He. Funny thing is, I think Yapp has actually lost some weight!

Sanjin Pehlivanovic - Looks the same. I wonder if he has hit his peak, or did so a few years ago.

Duong Quoc Hoang - Started out terrible, but fought and clawed back to make the first cut. Love his attitude, and he pulls off spectacular shots now and then.

He just misses his positional marks a little more often than other players.

Kledio Kaci - Former snooker player seems to have the tools to be a top 25 player. Careful and consistent.

You can tell he hasn’t played pool as much as other players. Misses sharp cut shots he shouldn’t and misses his positional marks a little more often. Still very young and game keeps improving.

I'm not familiar with the online sports-betting world. How would bets at ladbrokes.com translate to profit for matchroom? Does matchroom get a cut of the bets?
Ofc they get a piece. I don’t know the specific arrangement but they ain’t doing the books a favor. That’s their principal revenue, not pool fans……no unicorns and gum
drops in this world. But they do sugar coat it🍭🍬

the WNT to me is too young for betting on, although i've placed occasional bets in US open and W9C. it's not about player integrity either, i think most of this new crop of players seem honest and sportsmanlike (maybe they are milk drinkers 😉). it's just time, and prize money. give it more of both and i will feel more comfortable.
I seriously doubt there’s any dunking going on with any of those matches.

The sole reason I wouldn’t bet on those matches is the vig with the books is crazy high. I never lay a price for pool bets-unless I’m getting the better side.

I only bet with people I know and I don’t charge a price or lag a price bet $100 to win $100. Betting $120 to win $100 is a losing prop.

I’d bet the hell out of those matches with friends for fun. Why not? But never with a book.

That’s the whole idea. MR has a great formula, nobody dominates for many reasons.

Pretty cool stuff

yea, no as i said i don't doubt their integrity. but i liked the first iteration of this event in that every match was worth money. no lame ducks

Evidently there is a lot of pressure on Duong Quoc Hoang in his home country of Vietnam to do well. He wrote a long post, both sorry and defiant, on FB after a rocky start in the PLP.

Interesting story on how he became a pool player. He is 37 now and has had a tough journey.

i will definitely read that. yes, i was thinking this exact thing, he carries the hope of a nation where pool is booming. snooker player ding junhui had the same "burden". the flip side is he made a lot of money being so popular at home, with packed exhibitions, advertisement deals ans sponsors. i imagine duong can capitalize at home as well.

I agree 100%.

We’ll see what the lineup is like next year.

I know SVB has had a full schedule the past almost 2 months with almost no real time off. Not sure about the other guys, that’s tough action as well.

I’m not knocking this event at all, it’s been a fun sweat and there’s been some great matches.

Just need to be aware it’s not all about a true test of pools finest pitted against each other in long races with a lower variance format.

Which is why I explained why that is. It’s not about the viewing audience. It’s about the books and you can be certain the guys who bet on this action are very aware of the schedule and matches.

Thanks for linking that. I enjoy watching that guy play, he is so calm at the table.

Have cue case and rice cooker = set to travel for pool action

This sounds highly ... improbable.

Pool's two most electrifying players are not in the field, but this is still a very good event. The excitement in this event, at least for me, is all wrapped up in the fine play of Capito and Neuhausen, both of whom will likely reach Stage 3 and will be in with a chance to reach the semifinals.

We already saw Capito's top gear when he beat both Gorst and Filler back-to-back at the 2024 UK Open on his way to the title. His runout skills are truly exceptional and when his break is really working, he's a tough out. Neuhausen, a rising star in my estimation, wowed us at the International 9ball, getting all the way to the final before losing to Yapp.

I'll enjoy the climax of this event if at least one of Capito and Neuhausen reaches the semifinals.

Looks like Yapp won all of his matches today going 4-0. I like his chances to win this.
Yapp, like most of the players, has had his ups and downs. Started out 4-1, then had a tough spell to go 8-6. Since then he has found a groove. Now in 4th at 13-7.

I could see any of Chua, Shaw, SVB, Capito, Yapp, and even FSR again, winning this. Neuhausen is right there with them, but I don't think he can pull it off.

Day 6 update:

Chua has still been the best player. Started out 3-0 today. But then he got tired, made some big mistakes and finished with a loss to FSR. Lost focus a bit and takes too many risky shots. Not sure he can stay consistent to the finish.

Capito has been the most consistent player. Very few lows. Very confident.

SVB had a tough day, going 1-3. In 7th and in danger of not making the second cut down to six players. Just hasn't had his head fully into it. Not practicing like a madman as usual.

FSR was cold, then hot, then cold, then hot. Just don't know what guy will show up each day. Went 4-1 today.

Shaw has been Shaw, but he's had lapses of concentration we don't usually see. Could be the format. Or just being in Bosnia so long. Still a threat to win it all.

Neuhausen. Steady and consistent, but I don't sense he is ready to win an event like this. Really like his game and his progress, though.

Sanjin, Kledio and Duong are unlikely to make the next cut. Just too far behind. Sanjin has battled hard, but he is not a top 20 player. Duong fought so much to make the first cut he wore himself out. Looked exhausted in a late night loss to Yapp. Kledio has been steady, but he's not there yet.
