2026 Reyes Cup - October 15-18

AJ Manas back to back reyes cup MVP?

Carlo was actually undefeated outside the Team events. But no one on Team Asia had a better overall record than the worst ROW player :)

These stats are through 14 matches, not the actual 15. So they are wrong for FSR, SVB, Capito, and Duong.

The final stats can be found here: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/2026-reyes-cup-scores-and-individual-records.590881/

I was cracking up when team ROW were in a circle and rotating/dancing during the celebration. They really looked like a team. "Everything looks right when you are winning".
"Everythings funny when you're winning big money!" This 'match' was a total mismatch.

and with FSR apparently on another high. funny kind of player. streaky.

but it's not as easy as to say team asia had their hands tied with the wildcard picks. they would need the heyball defectors to be really competitive;

lil ko
biado
chua
wu jiaqing
yapp or big ko

that would be a close match.
Totally different team, with only Biado a holdover.

This event went pretty much how I expected with ROW as stacked as they were. I also thought Aleksa played very well for team ROW which shows how much depth Europe has.

wojciech, albin, niels, mario, there's a bunch of players i'd pick before pecelj.. but this was his first event of this sort, so there's room for improvement

I’d take Aleksa over everyone on that list except Woj. Considering this was his first go at it and he won over 70% of his matches I’d say he played pretty well.

A couple folks on Facebook mentioned they did not care for the name "Team Rest of the World" (ROW).

Upon thinking about it, why not Team East v. Team West instead of Team Asia v. Team Rest of the World?

I'm not knocking MR or WNT. Just thinking about the pros and cons of the names. I enjoyed Captain Souquet and is Row, Row, Row celebration chant with Team ROW.

Thoughts?

I like Team ROW. If the Asian based players think they are the best, let's see it! East vs. West implies 50/50 geography. I respect your opinion of this though! I'm a child of the toughness of the 1980's, where the attitude was "if you think you got it, step up, but be ready to get hit in the mouth" (to say it nicely). In line with this, I have personally never taken a spot in pool in my many years of competing.

i like that better. less clonky.

I'd just call it Team World instead of Team Rest of the World.

There hasn't been a competitive Reyes Cup or Mosconi Cup since 2022. These events seem to get out of hand quickly. Odd.

Team Asia played poorly, obviously. Only Biado was up to snuff.

A talent issue? Yes, but even more so, an experience issue. I was excited by the Januarta pick. But having two inexperienced youngsters turned out to be a big problem. Capito also showed nerves in his first cup experience. It was too much to overcome.

Team Asia would have been stronger with Yapp, but it still would have lost. My guess is Frazer talked with Yapp and he was willing to step aside for Januarta. Yapp was not himself this year and mentioned in a post in late September how tired he was of all the travel.

In any case, the pickings for Team Asia this year were slim with Chua and the Ko brothers ineligible.

Januarta was actually 4th in overall rankings among Asian players. Only Capito, Oi and Yapp - in that order - were higher. Hoang and even Biado were behind Januarta in points.

On paper, the best possible Asian team from an eligibility standpoint would have been Capito, Yapp, Biado, Hoang and probably Oi, though a strong case could be made for Januarta or even Roda.

Final observations:

*Hoang looked very tired. He was tentative and mistake prone.

*Manas was terrible, no two ways about it. The glow from being 2025 MVP is all gone.

*Matchroom felt free to leave out Yapp. The next evolution is to be free to leave out Manas and Hoang despite their large fanbases. Both played poorly enough to warrant omission next year unless they do well on the tour.

*Team Row was strong, but SVB, Gorst and Filler made plenty of errors. Only FSR played lights out. Pecelj showed nerves on Days 1-2 but eventually settled in.
