For me it's the hits of the 60's and 70's with an emphasis on Motown. Brings back memories of the early 80's when I played my best and when the owner "old guy" used to have that on the radio at the pool room. From what I've heard, however, the music with the best tempo to play pool to is Barry Manilow. I shit you not.

The "Sound of Silence". Don't really like the distraction. Like to hear the sound of the tip hitting the CB, balls hitting each other and the balls dropping into the pocket. Even like hearing the balls roll along the cloth and bouncing off of the rails.

I like Gov't Mule as well. I also like Mumford Sons, Ray LaMontagne, Van Morrison and a few others. I have also dabbled in listening to classical while playing and enjoy that. And I am not an old timer.
