3/7/10 Update on the Lizard Acres pool scene

Yesterday and today the Arizona Senior Olympic Billiard (8-Ball) Championships
were and are being held here in Lizard Acres pool room. Although citizens of
Lizard Acres grabbed no gold yesterday, I (George the Jump) managed to garner
the bronze medal and Ed Scott pulled down the silver. Ed easily beat me out of
competition for the gold and then lost a tight hill-hill match for first place. Ed
readily outclasses me , but when I found myself in medal contention I fell into the
old ," OMG I might be able to win this thing!" syndrome, let my mind take
over and missed so many pockets I felt like I was playing on a 3C Billiard table.
Didn't really matter, the chances of me beating Ed Scott heads up were pretty slim.
The 70's and over play today and later on I'll list the names of winners as best
as I can. Some good pool was played yesterday in Lizard Acres.

For you doubters that such a place exists, I have included a google map
to verify our legitimacy.

The Official Sign DESIGNATING you have arrived in Lizard Acres, site on or NEXT to the Railroad Tacks on Grand Avenue North of the Surprise Wall World. The Sign marks the location CLEARLY to Railroad Engineers, and has sat there for as long a I can REMEMBER. Sadly today the Sr. Olympic continue, and our Pool Room is closed to those of us who pay to use it. Hope this is the LAST YEAR for the Sr. Olympics, or they move it to Mesa, or some other place. The Sign I talk of Sits NEAR where the CN Car on the Train is in the photo below...

wild things, they make my heart sing(s)

Yep. We're on the edge of desert wilderness here in Lizard Acres. Our cue sticks are made
of mesquite wood. The bed of our pool tables is not slate but sun dried adobe, as are the balls.
We don't use felt but instead have found that tightly stretched Navajo rugs are an ideal
substitution. The legs on our pool table are stumps of saguaro cactus and we have to watch
out for the Mojave Diamond Back rattlesnakes lurking under in the shade of the tables. Yes, I said
shade. We have to play outside because the temperature inside just gets too hot.( But it's a dry heat.)
Of course we never stick our hand in a table pocket to retrieve the balls without a careful look-see
because there could be a scorpion or a tarantula sleeping inside . Coyotes. Javelinas, and Bobcats
roam freely and any pet dog under 50 lbs. is suppertime for some wild animal. Off course an
occasional lost Cowboy will wander by, asking where his cows are but we try to tolerate him
We take the bad with the good. It takes a tough hombre to live way out here in the territories.

I'd like to see some action updates from Glendale, Peoria, and Surprise. Under
the Lizard Acres heading. I know there is good action West of
Phoenix but I never here about it.

Everybody knows Lizard Acres pool room is no Derby city. What you think is your
sense of humor just reveals your bitterness for some reason
about most everything. So why don't you refrain from posting on Lizard
Acres unless you can inform about the pool scene west of Phoenix or you
can be humorous without being spiteful. Your vitriol is spoiling what I'm trying to do.
That's have some fun. You're presence so far on my threads has not been fun.

12310bch you forgot to mention Double Gold, last sunday by RH in the ladies 80- 100 y/o Eight Ball Event Sunday in Sr. Olympics. YUP RH won it all and got the Gold for Beating every lady over 80, and the Second Gold in here CLASS 90 y/o +.

12310bch I am happy you got direction from RickS,:boring: now I will tell you something honest. The world of Pool is Lizard Acres, is about FUN, LOVE OF THE GAME. If you are all about Gambling, Money, be friends with the like of RickS, and the others who are only in Pool for what they can get out of it. :bash: I know you are better than that as you Love the Game, and Love Helping Struggling Players, and New Players. That is why you where one of the few Guys in Lizard Acres who supported Cue for Kids. :dance: Ricks is envious of the good life we have who are lucky enough to live in Lizard Acres.:deadhorse:

There is Pool West of 51st Ave. Deli Sportz on 96th Ave & Peoria has a really FUN 8-ball tournament every Saturday Night. 32 players each and every week run by Chris Carpenter.

The Brookside Inn runs some tournaments on Tuesday Nights on Bell, east of Reems.

Also, the ghost has been known to get a beat down or two at my residence in the 124th Ave area.

IMHO Deli don't count, as IMHO is it a BAR with a bunch of drinkers that keep the place open. Pool IMHO need to be play in Pool Rooms like Kolby's with Pool Tables!!!!! Not FAUX POOL TABLES, CALLED Bar Boxes!!!!!!!!

BROOKSIDE is actually BROOKSIDE II, my Neighbors son was the partner in Brookside, before it closed for the first time.

He want ZERO part of Pool Tourny's in his Sport BAR, being an EX COPPER I understand. He only saythe worst side of POOL.

Jason is is cheap to attack the poster, but then the post was true information, so you could no rebut the info..

That is my opinion, went to the Deli once and a Saturday Night, too noisy, too crowed, and not my kind of place with too many heavy drinkers. Same reason I don't go to the American Legion down the road.

Have not been back to Brookside since it reopened, so let say I was not impress the one time I went there for Dinner not special.

Honestly the old Brookside was a YUPPIE Sports Bar, and they had a ridged dress code that I think was part of their demise when the recession hit. No Backward Baseball Caps, No biker Attire, too many no’s. Kind of hard to attract YUPPIES when they arrive on their 40K Custom Chopper, with Custom Leathers, and you say no way. go somewhere else we don't allow any biker types.

About the only play I go any more is the Northern on 51st., and that has been like 6 or 8 months.

Honestly I look at the FAUX AZ Pool Newspapers, and I see nothing to get excited about in AZ Pool. Last time there was a good pool paper in Arizona Mike O. was the Editor, since than what we got is not even mediocre IMO! Before Mike o’s Newspaper you had the Mike H. Newspaper that was also good

Patrick's puts little effort in his paper the INFO, doesn’t even both to write a monthly editorial. Dr. Jack's BTT is far from a Pool Paper, it looks like an entertainment guide with a lot of drink beer. Both Dr. J’s & Patrick’s run pictures of people flashing the birdie, and gang signs. IMHO that is not good for pool already less than great image.

My opinion are just that opinions, like when I said Sweet Tooth would not last long, because of no Liquor. Can you say I was 1/2 right. Sweet Tooth is gone.

The brookside has horrible food and only 2 barboxes. They have pool tournaments on Tuesdays and not a ton of super drinkers.

The players at Deli on Saturday Night are a great group of people, very fun and no one is really drunk and crazy. Don't go there, I don't wan you ruining anyone elses fun.

I have to agree about the papers.

You are about 1/16 right on Sweet Tooth, as they built out IMHO one of the best rooms in the state. The takeover from Stingers was put into motion before Sweet Tooth even opened the doors. Now we have two great businesses next door to each other. Sweet Tooth Billiards changed it's name to Sweet Tooth Poker & Pool. Stingers now has 12 tables, shuffleboard, 8 dart boards, 3 poker tables, 20 tap beers, a full grill, a great sound system with dance floor and more importantly a full bar with great drink specials.

Like I said I heard it reopened, when it was the original Brookside, it was my neighbor son who was one of the owners. He dump his pension money it the place, and sadly it closed because of the business plan, and recession.

Have not been there is two years, except to pick up the local Pool Papers, as it is across from my $7.00 Hair Cut Place.:wink: You need not worry as I seldom go out after dark, hate being up till 2 a.m. , hate driving in the dark. OLD EYE!

Dr. Jack Paper is still not out as a friend delivers em in the East side, and I spoke with him this a.m. He don't know why Jack don't get the paper out on time.

Think someone need to start a REAL ARIZONA POOL NEWSPAPER, and do like a colne of Mike H's, and Mike O's old papers.
