There is a new format for 3-cushion that is a sort of ring game. It's called Survival Masters. Four players are at the table. Each point you make gets a point from each of the other players, and if a player goes to zero, he's out. There's a time limit so it works for TV.

Here are the highlights from an event that just finished in Korea. Semih Sayginer finished first for $50,000. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B89Pft9pIPM

Here's an article about the event on the Kozoom website: http://www.kozoom.com/en/billiard-c...inally-the-best-winner-survival-in-seoul.html

It's too bad more people dont play this game - probably the most beautiful game of all.

Honestly, I no longer feel the need to smash sticks when I play pool, but 3c has me on the bubble sometimes.

For the record, I've never smashed a 3c cue.

Great game, but it is real damn hard.

i wrote a little about it on the carom forum, personally i like it. maybe it doesn't lend itself to producing high innings but the format in itself is suspenseful and one can feel the pressure. i watch it on the threadmill

being scandinavian i'm partial to blomdahl and nelin but the player best suited for survival is probably dani sanchez

They had a pro 3-cushion ring game the day after the Sang Lee Invitational until Sang's death in 2004. One wrinkle in the rules was that banks (any shots in which the cue ball hit a rail before it hit an object ball) paid double. I saw a couple of these ring games, sometimes having more than four players, and it made for great viewing.

It is largely Koreans around me and that's how they play. I play some guys for time and one can mount a comeback from far away, with that 2:1.
