Got a hunk of hardwood 3" sq x 24" should I cut it now into 1-1/2" sq and let it dry out or let it sit for a while?

If it's green and wet I would let it dry a little to about 15% moisture and then cut it and finish drying it.

If you cut it when it's wet it might squirm and crack.

Stand it up over in the corner and take a leak on it every day for about a month, then it'll be ready to cut. :embarrassed2:

You have no idea what to use it for right now.
You don't know how to cut wood now either.
Let it sit till you're ready.

That moisture meter ships from Chinois Land for 12 bucks.

I think my heat seeking moisture missile might work better.

You have to spend a tad more on one before it will help you out.

I'll just tape a 3" piece of foil over it and see the moisture in 24 hrs.

What would cutting it now do for you ?
It's already dry and you have no idea how you're going to use it.

If I wanted to start getting it ready to go in a cue and it is kiln dried. I would cut it into turning squares now. Then watch it a few weeks and if it has not cracked go ahead and cut the corners off of it and turn it round. If it has cracked turn it all into inlay slabs or whatever you can get by working around the cracks.

Thanks Chris

Thanks Chris I planed to make full one piece butts !?@
