Well, I got to bed early and wake up to find a completely different player roster than I had thought. That said, we have 8 men left on the A side and 24 men left on the B side of the charts.
On the winner's side:
Shane Van Boening v. J. Sossei. Man, I don't know who this kid J. Sossei is, but after his fine runner-up finish to Earl Strickland at the recent Joss Turning Stone, he's a man on a mission. This should be a great match.
Niels Feijen v. Oscar Dominguez. Let's hear it for Oscar. Another young player who's on fire in recent times.
Jayson Shaw v. Johnny Archer. From the way Johnny's beeing hitting 'em, he's going to be hard to beat this year, but Jayson, with his recent sponsorship of Str8tShots, is having a very, very good tournament. This is the Old Guard versus the New Guard here, and it's anybody's guess who shall win.
Chris Melling v. Mike Dechaine. Mike is burning up the charts with fast matches, wasting no time. Good luck, Britain fans, because Mike Dechaine is in the house. Just as an aside, Karl Boyle called Chris Melling "Tubbsy" on FB after Melling defeated him.
In the losers bracket, we have 24 men in the wings. This is their last shot at reaching the finish line, so they are going to be giving it their all in what may be some hard-fought matches:
Boston's favorite child, Tommy "Shorty" D'Alfonso v. the South's Shannon "The Cannon" Daulton, winner plays D. Mastermaker, a Richmond hopeful.
Lovable Ralf Souquet v. Lovable Tommy Kennedy -- how can you root against either one of these guys? -- plays that Greek guy who seems to have been barbecuing his opponents, (Ekonomopoulus).
Handsome Oliver Ortmannn v. Mika Immonen, the winner of which plays Karl Boyes. Oh, Oliver, give the ladies some eye candy and win.
Thorsten Hohmann v. K. Guimond, the winner plays Corey Deuel. Corey seems to have figured out this equpment at the Open this year. Thorsten or K. Guimond, whoever wins, will have a tough match on their hands against Corey.
J. Exposito v. Imran Majid, the winner plays Lee "Van-Van" Corteza. Van-Van is the lone Filipino left standing. He will have a huge fan base in Norfolk pulling for him.
Can Wang v. Canadian E. Hjorleifson, the winner plays Britain Super Star Darren Appleton. Can Wang, just going by what I have seen in the charts, plays slowly. That can knock the rhythm out of the best of players. Can Can do it? Will the Canadian veteran overcome Wang's style of play? With Darren waiting in the wings, this is going to get interesting.
Rodney "The Rocket" Morris v. Florida's Donny Mills, both rack and break mechanics, will be a good match. I predict there won't be much shooting, and it will come down to who has mastered the equipment best. The winner of this match plays the "Other Keith," from North Carolina comes Keith Bennett, the kid who looks like he walked out of a "Leave It to Beaver" sitcom. Keith is having a great tournament this year, and I know he wants to win this with all his being. I wonder who he'd rather play, Rodney or Donny.
Well, there you have it. That's the menu for today, Friday, October 18, 2013.
