32 Men Left Standing: Friday 2013 U.S. Open 9-Ball Thread

Jayson Shaw plays SVB tomorrow in the hot seat match.

My bad, I edited my previous post. I totally forgot we still have a hot seat match tomorrow...

that Corteza vs. Feijen match is gonna be awesome, considering these two met just about a month ago in the WCOP finals.

I just woke up and had to read the rest of this thread. Wow! Van-Van is da' man.

Niels Feijen is hitting 'em strong. He knocked out the Greek.

I have to go to the charts now and see who's left. Today is the last day. Who will it be? Does anybody have any favorites? I have to go see who's left before I make my mind up. :p

Unfortunately, Nickos gave a stong fight coming again from behind.
He scratched at 9-10..
Anyway it was another good tournament for our friend, I'm sure sooner or later he will break through to a big success.
He is invited to the best 16 of the world that play next week in England, this is going to be great too.

Is there a list of the 16 invited somewhere? Johnnyt

Well, the Greek has gotten my attention. He had a FANTASTIC tournament this week. I can't wait to watch him play again. :smile:

I will look into it, I think it's not closed yet since the winner of this year's US open will be one of them. This year's world champion is in, both in men's and women's division and there is a system by which they are selected. I'll try to find out more.

Of course any of them could win it now, but I wouldn't be very surprised if Shaw is the dark horse. He has been rooming with Earl in NY for at least 6 months and they are both house pros at Steinway's. Earl can teach him so much about the game. He shoots like a rifle now. Listening and practicing with Earl could make him into a monster. Johnnyt

I didn't know that. I will have to add that little nugget to the Open thread for today. Thanks, Johnnyt! :)

Here you are, not sure finally if this year's US open will be included, maybe that seat is up for this year's Mosconi cup team.

Here is the promoting video, actually this event is somehow the continuation of "Challenge of champions".

I have a rough guess Petros Andrikop is talking about the World Pool Masters played on 25-27 Oct at the Barnsley Metrodome, Yorkshire, England.

If so, the list of 16 is already closed and even the draw has been made.

Here is the list of Players:

Karol Skowerski (POL) Defending Champion;
Darren Appleton (ENG) 2 x World Champion and 2 x US Open Champion;
Chris Melling (ENG) China Open Champion;
Daryl Peach (ENG) 2007 World Champion;
Karl Boyes (ENG) 2010 World 8 Ball Champion;
Efren Reyes (PHI) 2 x World Champion and 1 x US Open champion;
Chang Jung-ling (TPE) 2012 World 8 Ball Champion;
Ga Young Kim (KOR) 2 x World Champion;
Shane Van Boening (USA) 2 x US Open Champion;
Ralf Souquet (GER) 6 times Masters Champion;
Niels Feijen (HOL) 2008 World Straight Pool Champion;
Mika Immonen (FIN) 2 x World Champion, 2 x US Open Champion;
Alex Pagulayan (CAN) 2004 World Champion;
Omar Al Shaheen (KUW) World No.14;
David Alcaide (SPA) European No.5;
Nick Ekonomopoulos (GRE) World No.9.

The draw can be found under this link:

It's certainly a strong field but I don't think these are the 'best 16' in the world, at the moment.

I understand it's an *invitational* being held in England, so, of course, they did invite 4 Brits and Neils so that covers Mosconi Cup Team Europe while only having Shane from team USA. :rolleyes:

Some players from around the world who are def in the top 16 were snubbed but it's their invitational.

Thorsten seems to be getting snubbed everywhere lately.

Still will be fun, I'm sure.

best,
brian kc

I thought at one of the recent tournaments(maybe steinway classic?), shaw got all upset at earl and accused him of sharking.

Now I wonder if I have a manly feel. Is there some type of network you girls can refer me to to get felt?

Oh Man what did i get myself into!!!!!! Just to be clear i am not a girl!!!! just expressing my thoughts :nono:

It's invitational but most players are included due to their accomplishments, the promoters have a system about that, it's up to them to explain it further.
Anyway invitations are not always accepted, Thorsten should be there I agree. I don't know if he was not invited or he didn't wish to go.

That is fine but don't say this than

Petros Andrikop said:

That field while strong certainly in no way represents the best 16 players in the world at this moment. It is missing key figures such as Dennis Orcullo, Thorsten, all but one of the elite TPE/Chinese players, and instead throws in Omar Al Shaheen who is in no way one of the top 16 players in the world and Ga Young Kim who might be one of the best female players in the world but is in no way one of the best 16 pool players in the world when including the men, she is not even in the top 100.

Had you said

"He is invited to 16 of the best of the world"

rather then

"He is invited to the best 16 of the world"

it would be different.

What you stated is that those ARE the best 16 players on this planet atm and that is complete BS and everyone here knows that. Some of those guys would belong on a list of the 16 best, some are questionable, and others are without a doubt misplaced on that list.

No intention on my side to mispresent facts, like I wrote we need to know the system on which they based their selection, or we need to have a stable system that defines each year the best 16.
I'm not sure if that even would be entirely accurate since there is no global professional league and not all players play everywhere, besides that a point system might rule out some top players which happen to have a few less points than others in a certain period.
So things are kind of relative, in any case it is a great honor for every player to be there, promoters certainly want to make profit and wouldn't just call anybody that is really far from the best, that wouldn't show up good enough.
