34 Billiards in a Row

In the "best banker" thread it was mentioned that Eddie Taylor had made 37 banks without a miss over the course of three racks (10 + 15 + 12).

In the European 3-C Championships last month Dick Jaspers did something very similar against Torbjorn Blomdahl in the final match. They were playing three out of five fifteen point games. In the first game Jaspers made 2 from the break, Blomdahl ran 8, and Jaspers ran 13 and out. In the second game Blomdahl made 2 off the break, and Jaspers ran 15 and out. (At this point Blomdahl had 10 billiards in 2 innings and Jaspers had 30 billiards in 3 innings but had only missed once.) In the third game Jaspers made 6 from the break.

So Jaspers had 34 billiards without a miss (13 + 15 + 6). Jaspers won 3-0 making 45 billiards in 8 innings. Since three of those innings were unfinished runs, he actually only had 5 misses. That's 9 billiards per miss.

Truman Houge(my buddy-damn we have fun) told me he made 33 banks just throwing balls on the table playing alone and 27 9 and out 3 times in a row in action-both were years ago he said.

Would be interesting to play 14.1 banks. My high run would be 2.

It's not exactly a run, but here is a whole match from the finals of a world championship with just the successful shots shown. There are several runs of 7 and 8 IIRC, and Daniel Sanchez averaged 3.462 to win (45 points in 13 innings).

on the square my high run playing 14.1 is around 8. I have ran 4 packs many times playing 9B, mt high break on a 12' snooker box is 53, I could run more in 9B but my break is bad(this was before my back problems). when I see a open table of 14.1 I just cant handle it and go crazy because there are too many choices, hell 8 and out playing 1P is easy too. but 14.1 is just impossible for me like spelling words correctly, there are just so many letters to choose from, 26.1 is the spelling game. ;) :)

Hi Bob,

Saw you on ESPN the other day! you looked great it was the show with Eric Yow who hasnt posted here in a while-he seems like a great guy-even if he is a lawyer;) and Sammi the 3C God from the other side of the globe.

3. questions for you:

1. Whats the 3C all time high run, practice, tournment dosent matter just the hi run like the 526 Mosconi did.

2. Is Sammi(spelled his name wrong as usual) considered the greastest 3C player of all time? Sang Lee was strong too. I know the show you were on was a exibition of artistic shots and not a 3C tournment. I have seen his video's with all the balls or wine glasses on the table where he fires 9 rail shots with ease. Is he more of a trick shot guy or 3C champion or both? He too seems like a hell of a nice guy like Eric.

3. I have the highest respect for the trick shot guys, Tom R., Mike M. they are all great showmen and seem to love what they do, they dont get pissed off like tournment players. I saw Tom R. doing a exibation at the BCA Trade Show 2 years ago putting on a performance like he had 100,000 people watching and TV cameras-there was only 2 people watching, he was loving every minute of it or was faking it and I dont think that was the case. He loves to perform is my opinion. whats your take on my thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

Also here in Vegas there was a 3C room years ago Crystal Palace Billiards, Was Frank Torrez the owner? I knew him for a while in 91-93 before I moved to LA. He played strong. I'm getting in the mood to play some straight rail, 3C is too brutal for me.

Semih Sayginer and Hugo Patino both have had practice runs of 31. Ceulemans and Komori have run 28 in league play. There may be other high runs -- it's not a well-kept record.

Semih is considered by far the best showman among the top players. Due to politics he has not been playing in the big tournaments much, so his ranking has fallen, but he would otherwise be in the top 5. He was World Champion in 2003 with an average of 1.868. He will be in NYC starting about next Tuesday for the Sang Lee Open (Carom Cafe in Queens).

Tom Rossman is amazing. John Schmidt saw his show at the latest BCA Expo, and was thinking of giving up pool because he didn't see any way he could entertain as many people so thoroughly as Tom does.

I've heard that the Crystal Palace has closed. Frank Torres, the owner, was US Champion before the Sang Lee era.

I heard the same thing about it closing. I was in Vegas a couple of months ago for the World Pool Masters 9-ball event and called to find out. I asked for Frank and the kid who answered the phone said "Frank who", always a bad sign...I said Frank Torres and he said "oh no, he's not here", I asked if he was still the owner and the kid said "I don't know".

Anyway, I didn't bother goin', Frank is an old friend but it sounded unlikely I'd see him. Sounds like "the lights are on, but nobody's home" at the Crystal Palace. I'd sure like to see Frank though, a very talented and humble champion.

Thank you Bob for the reply,

Frank was a super nice guy, I didnt know he was ranked that high, I knew he was a champion, WOW he sure is humble, nice guy. For some reason i'm getting itchy to play billiards-its been years. I have awalys loved sweating it.

thanks again gentalmen.

I watched Rafael Martinez run at least 20 billiards straight at The Jointed Cue near the end of last month and he wasn't even concentrating ... You know his speed in 9-Ball, so just apply that speed to 3-C and you'll get the picture ...
