Friday night: Player's Meeting started at 10:20 p.m. Over at 12:40 a.m. 115 players signed up. One player forfeited and one player WHO HAD PAID, FOR REASONS ONLY HE KNOWS, WITHDREW FROM THE TOURNAMENT. Why this player withdrew I don't know but I suspect it was due to heart problems, as in not having any, but who knows?
Saturday: Started play promptly at 10:00 a.m. I had to stop play in order to have the ladies' player meeting at 3:30 as it was not convenient to have the meeting elsewhere so play in the open could continue during the meeting. Play restarted at 5:00 p.m. My goal was to have ALL players in both divisions to have played at least one match by the conclusion of play Saturday night which I accomplished. The last match of the night ended at 11:48 p.m.
Sunday: Play started promptly at 9:00 a.m. Play continued all day until the last match ended at 1:00 a.m. Monday morning.
Monday: Play started promptly at 9:00 a.m. and continued all day until the final match ended at 4:15 in the morning.
The reasons for the tournament ending so late are simple. Eleven tables were available for tournament play. With a combined total of a 135 players in two divisions, there were 271 matches played over the long weekend. The races in the open were to 9 games on both sides and a double race to 7 on the ladies. I'll let you do the math on the chronology on that.
Also, there were an extremely high numbers of hill-hill matches during the tournament. The final reason is that I WILL NOT schedule a match to start after 12 midnight as most of the time, these matches are on the one loss side and those players are usually the ones to play the first round early the next morning.
Some people DO occasionally like to get some sleep after a long tournament day.
Normally, I keep my mouth shut about this sort of carping. One fact I have learned after running over 600 tournaments over the last 25 years is that you can't please everyone. No matter how smoothly things run, someone will get upset over something. Most of the time, that person is usually mad at themselves for the playing poorly and just looking for something to blame it on. If they have a legitimate complaint, I deal with it as best I can and learn from it so it won't happen again.
But, Zach, sounds like you didn't like the view of the tournament up there from the cheap seats!
I've always made it a rule to listen to complaints from the people who actually PAID THEIR MONEY AND PARTICIPATED IN THE EVENT! THEY PAID THEIR MONEY AND HAVE A RIGHT TO VOICE THEIR OPINION! I'm talking about the players who actually had the balls to step up to the plate, pay their dues, when they knew from the get-go they didn't even have a small chance of cashing.
As far as the condition of the tables, I personally didn't have one complaint about them from the people who actually played except from Tony Chohan about the pockets being a little to loose, but what do you expect from a world class player. This guy fires balls into pockets that I can't even see.
Zach, there is a term that is used in the military, REM. It stands for Rear Echelon M............R
The term is used for the guys that never have to risk their lives on the front lines but have all the answers. I'm sorry. Let me clarify that statement, they have all the COMPLAINTS and have none of the answers which they will tell absolutely everyone (hint: internet forums) who will listen to them instead of taking their issues quietly to the people who actually make the decisions. Once a soldier has bled on the battle field and the reoccurring problems remain unresolved then, and only then, can they criticize and complain.
Let me know when you're going to direct your 100+ player tourney that will be run perfectly. I'd like to see what the view is from way up high in the cheap seats. I promise you one thing though. if I have a problem, I'll bring it to you first since I've been there. I guess that's the difference between you and me.
Your friend,
Stones

I don't kiss anyone's ass, I speak my mind, also, but I also remain professional about it and can make points without being rude. You should listen to some of the other posters... it really is good advice.
To be honest, the more you talk $hit about other pool rooms and tournaments makes me not to want to play in one of your tournaments. Not that you care if I show up, I'm just trying to make a point that the rude comments will reflect badly on Diamond Billiards and the tournaments you run.

If your talking about David Henson, he plays with a Meucci Original. David G, I don't know what he plays with. I'm sure someone on here knows...I rack balls said:Hrm SYLVER played fantastic I have seen him play before, never thought he had that much game. I am a fan of winner breaks. The tables IMO were ok, new cloth was needed on most of the tables and the pockets on a few were rediculously big. I agree with a lot of what Zach said but it still was a great tournament and I will go to the next one. That was a hell of a field there wowzah. Wish I didn't play so poorly yesterday. What kind of cue was David playing with?
Eric.

Very nicely put Stones and you made some excellent points! I am one of those players that stepped up knowing I didn't have a chance this time around, but I have the cahona's to walk the walk and this is just a step in the process. I went 2 & out, but you never heard me complain, because I lost the match.
You did a nice job running the tournament & I appreciate your letting match start an hour earlier on Saturday night (at 10 instead of 11) and I am in favor of a race to 9.
Sincerily,
Ricky![]()

You can set times for matches if you have the equipment to do so...but not with what ya'll had available...I mean like for example ya'll told David to be there at 4:00 and he didn't play until 9:00...now that's a prime example...And another thing I wouldn't try to run it at Diamonds because of the space...Even though it'd be possible but you'd have to keep everyone there the whole time..

Ricky F said:Your a f&#king Aes!! You mouron, just because you run around with David G. you think you are the sh_t? I'm not saying anything one way or another about David G. because I don't know him, but from what I've heard he's a jerk, so that would make ya'll pretty much the same (if that's the case) & I can see how ya'll would get along just fine. I don't know why he would run around with you, unless your his money man?....BINGO!!!
If you know David, do you know Dusty that died about 8 months ago?
Stones said:I would personally like to thank Melinda for all of her support and help not only for the Open but for all of it over the years. Thanks for everything.
Oh, and by the way, you now have one free "STALL FOR TIME" ticket with me at any future event. Thanks for being a great sport about that situation.
I owe you, lady!

(AND WHERE WAS THAT DRINK I WAS PROMISED?) LOL
Melinda said:You ran a GREAT tournament, Paul. YOU and LEWIS and should be commended (or is that condemned?, LOL). I was glad to help - it's fun working with professionals of the sport.
I will take the ticket, but use it wisely for the perfect moment.
As for the drink - I TRIED, but you turned the waitress down!! You know women, we don't hag. Oh wait, that's backwards... okay, I still owe you a drink.![]()
ironman said:David is not a jerk by any means whatsoever. In fact, he is a pretty nice guy and very sown to earth type of guy. He's not loud or consumed with himself, just kind of quiet.
I've been on road trips with scores of players and David is very easy to travel with. Like I said, just a down to earth type. To associate him with Zach is not fair at all. FWIW>
Ricky F said:My apology, like I said I don't personally know him so I was going by someone else, but Zach needs to grow up, were all in the pool family together & I can't understand why Zack feels the need to One Up everyone and bad mouth good people like Stone?![]()
