I have been trying to get in touch with someone concerning this tournament. I received one email answering a question but have not been able to call or talk to anyone about paying for entry fees to any of the tournaments.

I had a phone number for a James West that is on the flyer but only get a voice mail and that's during the week as well.

I think I will contact Ozone Billiards when they open since they are the sponsor.

Anyone else on AZBilliards going to this tournament in Jacksonville, FL next weekend August 1-3?

Joey,

I'll be there for both the 8-ball and 9-ball open tournies. It would be an honor to meet you. I've enjoyed your posts here on AZB.

Randy

Another Seafood FEAST Is On The Menu

The Amateur tournament(s) start on Wednesday and as of this afternoon, the amateur event had 6 players signed up and the Senior's had only 2.

That would not encorage ME to book a round trip flight and hotel room (not to mention my MEALS).

Maybe some up to the minute player rosters might be prudent at this point.... imo

( I see some lobsters in the 48 player Invitational that might be better served in the Amateur, if allowed. ) :)

Randy, it woud be nice to meet you as well. They are going to have to get a few more players before I will commit. I don't want to travel 8 1/2 hours by car or take a plane and spend money on a hotel stay if there are only going to be a handful of players in the amateur events. If I knew they were going to get anywhwere close to their maximum number of players , I would sign up immediately.

Thanks for the nice words.

Joey,

I don't blame ya for not committing yet. I wouldn't either given the expenses involved. They got the APA to come in as a sponsor for the amateur events and provide a discounted entry for APA players. Hopefully, that will get more players in.

Update:

Just received a phone call from Dragon Promotions:
The paid and signed up players are:
20- 8 Ball
40 - 9 Ball
and normally they have 20-30 players for the Senior's 9 Ball.

They said that a lot of players sign up the day of the tournament.
$20 of each entry goes to green fees.

They guarantee the first place money advertised but the higher first place money will be paid if they get close to the maximum entries. They didn't say a number for that but at least they have more than 6 & 2 players for the two nine ball events.

Apparently BankShot billiards has their list and dragon promotions has another list.

For the 9 ball Amateur Open, they would have to have close to 200 players which is the maximum to pay the $4000 first place money, otherwise they would pay the minimum guaranteed of $1500 for first.

For the Senior's 9 Ball, they would have to have close to 64 players to pay the $1400 first place, otherwise they will pay the minimum guarantee amoutn of $500 for first.

I didn't inquire or check on the 8 ball tournament because that starts on the weekdays and is not an interest for me.

With the turnouts that Mike Janis is getting at The Viking Tour I am tempted to go to some of those events but I don't like playing at 2:00 am. My motor doesn't run well the next day. :p

Anyway, that's all of the information that I have and I am not convinced this is the best tournament for me to play in. There are several people that I would like to meet or see that I know are going to be at this tournament but the unknown factors are a deterrent for me because of my extra traveling expenses.

For me if I have to spend $1000 going to a tournament, I may as well have a large carrot dangling in front of my nose (lots of added money ) and a big stick at the ready.(great players to try and whack you real hard if you get close to the money). Think Mike Zuglan's tournaments $25000 added...big name players fighting hard for the cheese.

Anyway, while I would like to see several people, this tournament doesn't look good for me making the trip. Mobile, Al Breaker's Billiards has a tournament that same weekend and a big turnout is expected with gambling on the big tables and a heck of a bar table tournament. It is only a couple of hours away from my hometown versus 8+ hours to JAX.

Joey...While it is a nice thought, the only tournament Mike has, with that kind of added $$$, is Turning Stone. There are VERY few tournaments, around the country, with $20K+ added money. You can count them on one hand.

I believe Mike Zuglan has two tournaments like that each year and if I'm not mistaken they are sold out virtually every time.

I can't justify going to more than a couple of out of state tournaments per year, unless they are close by.

The weekends are best for me and maybe I'll be splitting my time between some of the amateur tournaments and other nice tournaments like DCC, Mike Zuglan's Turning Stone Tournament, The U.S. Open 9 Ball Championship and maybe the RENO tournament and any other non-smoking tournaments. Are you with me on that Ted Harris?:D

NO...Jay...you have it backwards! If there are only 2 in the seniors division, I am one of them! I would LOVE to meet you personally...but DON'T COME! I like my chances of winning with only one opponent!!!

A win is a win!! (-:

Kidding of course. I hope you do come.

The way I hear it "John", I would have my work cut out for me with you at any game. :shakehead: :grin-devilish:

JoeyA, are you playing in the Breakers tourny? I'd thought about playing in it this year, but my co-worker/brother is having surgery that Friday so I can't leave work. It's probably just as well, I played in it two years ago. It is brutal to say the least. 128 players + 10 Valley tables = around the clock play. I'll probably spectate some on Saturday night and Sunday.

nineball event

I will be there Friday for the nineball event. Does anyone know what time it starts? Hope to meet some of you guys there. We should all wear az shirts! lol

Brian,
I was trying to make a decision about going to Breaker's Tournament or the Amateur tournament in Jacksonville.

The Mobile Tournament is brutal and I thought about just trying to play some one pocket on the 9 footers or maybe watching Billy Incardona and other top players if the show.

There were several people who are AZBers that said they were going to the Jacksonville tournament so I opted to go there and meet them and play a little pool, especially since I got a sweet deal from www.expressjet.com Hopefully, they will still be flying when I hit the airport. :p

Look forward to meeting some of the AZBers in Jacksonville. I'll be at a slight disadvantage but those of you that go will be able to recognize me by my POW-MIA Avatar on my pool case and cue. Just introduce yourself to me. If I see you with an AZBilliards Key Chain zipper pull on your case, I'll do the same.

SmorgassBored, please read them the rules. :D

Best Regards,
JoeyA

Are you going?

A couple of other good rules to know.
BTW, jump cues are allowed.....
The attempt to break will start as soon as the cue tip touches the cue ball. (If you miscue or miss the rack when breaking, it is a foul).
JoeyA

Was there last night for a bit with Thorsten, Dominic (youth from Germany) and a girl from Texas (am horrible with names), there were plenty of players rolling in and Santos had been there for a bit too. Will be there tonight after work for the player's meeting and draw, will look for your patch and say "hey" if I see you JoeyA.
