4 1/4?

That wouldn't be a tightness problem, that would be a shitty table. Or you're slightly exaggerating. :giggle:

I agree it's not a tightness issue. I think the angles are wrong.

And when we set up to play the match, my opponent said right away, "Oh, THAT table . . ."

So it's well-known amongst the regulars.

NOT FROM POINT TO POINT!!!

"MOM -- THEY AREN'T LISTENING TO ME AGAIN ON AZ BILLIARDS!!!"
ye I may have jumped the gun on my post before reading more and seeing other pics.
And also the ever important measuring methods....which vary as much as pocket sizes themselves and deserve a standard mom and the guy in her basement would approve of.

4.5 is a snug fit on 2 balls. this is def less than 4.5. Maybe 4 3/8?

RKC said this looked like 4 1/4", I get about 4 3/8" measuring point to point. Either I couldn't get the 3 ball quite all the to point because the 1 kept dropping or I am just really bad at aligning with the points. I measured this like 10 years ago because it really doesn't matter, just make the ball.

I'll shut up after this one but why? Why measure like this? FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS HOLY AND GOOD!! STOP!!!

Okay I'm back... If you start with point to point and then move one obect ball AWAY from the pocket it's easier to understand the pocket size than jamming one of them into the pocket. If it's bigger than 4.5 inches, you'll see the gap between the balls. If it's not, one ball will move away from the pocket.

I'M DONE!!!

Maybe too much coffee.

Just take a tape measure and measure from point to point – simple.

I measured with my scale first, but I typically use balls because I don't carry a scale or a veneer with me when I go out to shoot pool.
Plus, and I didnt make this one up but you know what they say, "a picture is worth a thousand words", just sayin. :)

That makes more sense than what you were saying before. Just saying "put the balls on the point" is very subjective. The 8-ball in my avatar is "on the point" on both sides of the pocket, but that position would be useless for measuring the pocket size using the ball.

And using the balls to measure pocket size is sub-optimal, I agree, but sometimes it's all you've got.

I know, I was just at the pool hall and don't carry a measuring device. Maybe there's an app for that . . .
Sure, you just whip your tape measure out of your bag . . .
Believe it or not, but just two nights ago I was making some room in my case, and finally took out the digital vernier I had been carrying for the better part of a few months at least...lol

I had a bet on the level of work done in my local room and brought them to league so I could collect on the can of coke. Totally forgot they were still in there... ;)
