I registered for the Seminole pro tour Florida event at Capones a week ago before I even heard about the round robin format. Today I read this:

Some of the benefits are that players will play, guaranteed, for two full days and a minimum of 40 matches (4 rounds). In most tournaments, you are only guaranteed two matches. Here players are able to play their way to the money and not be eliminated by losing two unfortunate matches early. A loss is not the end of the road in this style. It does make it more difficult to win if you lose early, but players are not eliminated like in the regular format. This style will also make it better for the spectators. Fans will get to see their favorite players play for at least two full days.

So at first i go YIPPEE i get to play against the pros for the equivalent of $7.50 a match. Then i thought...wait a min...how long will this take to play 40 matches over two days?

This is basically Corey's format from his tournament a couple years ago. Each match consists of 10 games. You get a point for each game and I think two points for a run out. Top points positions play each other and on down the line.

There was huge controversy at Corey's event about guys gaming the format, Basically if a guy that was out of the race was playing a contender the contender magically wins 9-1. It caused the whole tournament to come to a screeching halt. One of the weirdest situations I have ever seen.

It was rife with problems and you will hear people screaming about it when they figure out that a couple points events are being played on a nonstandard goofy format.

I was very surprised when I found out the Seminole's were going to use this for points events. What surprised me was that a non standard format was actually allowed for a points event. I guess if you post the $25K you can do about what you want and get listed as a points event.

race to 10 x 40 matches would not be possible over 2 days. i was thinking maybe races to 5?

OK I hear ya

Jcin, no offense but give em a break, sounds like it's the type of format that would be more attractive for a middle of the road player like me to jump into to get to play with the guys who do this for a living. I know Corey's tournament got some flack but maybe with the Seminoles and a little guidance it could be a good thing. It sounds like a lot of fun and at Capone's (one of the best rooms on the gulf) too !!

Isn't it 10 games per match, not a race to 10?? I'm probably mistaken but that's how I took it.. That would be a huge difference IMHO..

Even a 10 game match could take an hr. But w/e! im really pumped up about this no matter what the number is. I get to play pool all day for two days against mostly pros. All I got to do now is get me a big bottle of Alleve for afterwards.

I want to clarify some information so that there is no assumptions being made on the format.

The matches are 10 total games, not a race to 10.

There was some controversy on the scores when Corey did this format for a tournament a few years ago. We can assure everyone that that will not happen again. We will be filming each table. If any "funny" scores arise or anybody thinks a false score has been turned in. The tape will be checked. If players are discovered to be turning in false scores via video proof, all players involved will be disqualified, period.

We will take all measures to ensure that no cheating takes place and to correct all of the mishaps from the last time this format was played.

WOW!! Very nice! Any chance DVDs will be made of these tapes?

So if I understand this correctly EVERYONE will play 400 total games before anyone is eliminated? So 200 games per day for the first 2 days per player are played and then field is narrowed on final day to how many players?

Also, since all events are pretty much 64 player fields limited is there a payout schedule that can be posted (for full fields) for the 64 player events that are $25K added?

10 games per match.

Play at least 4 matches.

4x10= 40 games

I would guess most matches will last 60-90 minutes.

I'm all for the Seminole events. They are one of the promoters out there who do big money added events well and pay with no issues. I want them to stick around and do many more events. That doesn't mean I have to agree with a format that caused the weirdest series of events I have ever seen at a pro tournament.

Corey did the best he could with it last time and IMO handled it as well as possible. The weakness was the format itself. Based on the response from the tour they are aware of the pitfalls so maybe it will work smoother.

Whatever happens I wish them well and hope the 2011 season is a success.
