ok, tonight i was playing, and i was getting kinda tired, but i wanted to keep playing since tomorrow is sunday and its a holiday weekend.

i had seen an energy drink advertised on TV, and sent away for the free sample. its called "5 HOUR ENERGY" and comes in a little bottle. have any of you posters ever seen it? or used it?

it has a website - 5hourenergy.com - if you want to check it out. i decided not to use it since i havent seen it anywhere in stores, nor have i seen anyone else using it.

Yeah man, I have used that stuff alot. You can buy it in a seven-eleven down around Dallas. Works, just alot of b vitamins and caffeine.

If it has both vitamines and caffeine there is no reason why it shouldn't work. But is it then the best solution for keeping you in shape?

I would say that actually much better and longer lasting energy boost you'll get by proper eating+drinking habits: drink some coffee or tea to get some caffeine and then a lot of water. Eat fruits or fruitsalads and get the vitamines that way.

Most energy drinks are really, really, really bad for you. And I think the inclusion of B vitamins in them is more of a placebo effect for more health-concious people to lure them into trying the energy trink. B Vitamins usually take a few days before you notice an increase in concentration, they don't work right away (from my experience).

The caffeine amount in these drinks is huge. Caffeine is a diarrhetic, which causes you to go to the bathroom quite often, and it dehydrates you. Would you want to have to go to the bathroom every 10 minutes just so you can have a boost of energy? I wouldn't.

Some time ago I checked this stuff out online. Turns out the caffeine in one of those "Monster" or "Red Bull" drinks is about the same as a nice espresso. Nothing extreme. Down four of those red bulls and the caffeine will take its toll, no doubt.

I think the energy drink fad will fade.

The flavor is quite different, almost "electric" and isn't available in other soft drinks.

As for the "taurine" in the drinks, it's a lot of bull, of course :D

Can that stuff increase your concentration? Beats me, but if you think it does, and want to spend $4 for it at a pool hall, by my guest.

I'll be waiting for you in the finals. Hope you aren't jittery at that time. Nerves never helped anybody will a pressurized pool game.

not a fan of energy drinks

Most of them contain a lot of sugar too. Anytime you dump a lot of sugar into your system, energy drink, large orange juice, whatever, it does give you a quick boost. The problem is that within less than thirty minutes you also get a hard crash as insulin dumps to try to deal with the sugar overload.

Easier said than done but the best way to handle long stays at the pool table is to be physically fit and healthy, and to do it often enough that you adapt as your body fatigues.

I saw those last time i went to CVS. Took at look at it since it looked interesting but the price was a turn off. It was like 5 dollars for just 2 bottles and that would make it more than canned energy drinks. Picked up a bottle of caffeine pills instead. If the stuff is any good then maybe i'll try it (taste is a big factor...).

There must be a lot of guys drinking those things. I often see players running frequently to the bathroom to get an energy boost.:D

Yrs ago when redbull & vodka was all the rage, a friend of mine had one and I took a sip... the taste was horrible. To this day when I smell redbull or anything like it, it turns my stomach.

Because of this, I've been afraid to try any energy drink. I've got it in my mind that they all taste about the same....

Well call me crazy but I like the things, during tournaments or on league night I have at least one when I first arrive, then another mid-day or when I start feeling a little run down. No, ill effects here.

I myself used to be a Red bll addict, and they sell a sugar free version.

You might want to mix in some exercise.

Are there any energy drinks out there that are fruit flavored? Something like Hawaiian punch or close to that? If you like the taste of red bull, please do not answer this question! :p

You could get effervescent caffeine tablets and toss them into hawaiian punch. Vault is pretty good, tastes like fresca and thats kinda like a fruit flavor.
