59” or 60” cues

Most cues are standardized at a 29" butt. This includes both custom and production cue makers. Some will offer 30" butts, but its not typical. The aftermarket shaft companies, many offer both 29" and 30" shafts as standard.

I went through this for years, being tall at 6' 3", and having all sorts of custom and production butts and shaft combos.

I have a custom 31" carbon fiber I play with sometimes which is pretty much identical to the 29" and 30" I play with too.

About as close to golf as I get...

I used to have a custom 31” butt with a 30” shaft. In the end I decided the shaft gets too whippy for me and now I just play with a stock 58” cue and add a 4” extension on the back permanently. I take the weight bolt out to restore the balance

I would imagine that would be the case with a maple shaft, I wounder if you had paired it with CF or maybe kielwood if you would have liked it more?

I am 6 ft 1 in tall and love the extra inch on a cue stick. I also grip the cue almost to the end of the butt which seems a bit odd but that is what is comfy for me. I look at my elbow forearm angle and it is pretty much straight up and down and not at a higher angle then 90°. I tried to shorten up my grip but it really makes me feel cramped up.

Possibly, but I’m pretty satisfied with the extra length being in the back. Just feels solid. Im a fan of super stiff-hitting shafts. I play with a mezz ex-pro which has a carbon fiber core. Imo has all the benefits of cf shafts with better feedback

Most cues today are 58", divided equally between the butt and shaft and as long as you aren't 188cm/6'2" or more. I don't think a longer cue is needed. A 30" shaft gives you quite a bit more reach and a 60" cue should be enough for just about all players out there. Once you get into 31" shafts and butts, finding a case that fits can be an issue. 31" wood shafts tends to have quite a bit of flex as well, unless you give them a very stiff taper. Sometimes a small lightweight 2" or 3" extender is a more practical solution to extend the cue.

I played 58" for a long time but last year or so gave a 30" shaft a try and I've become a big fan. Didn't love it at first but after playing with it for a while I've really grown to like that extra bit of reach and how it positions me at the point of contact in my stroke.

Since it's pretty easy to get a 30" shaft these days it's definitely worth trying I think. There are some 30" butts out there too, Predator offers a number of theirs in that length now and I'd be interested in trying one but I just got myself a new Jacoby in standard 29" butt with 30" shaft so I'll be sticking with that for the foreseeable future.

I'm 6'6''. Was told for yrs I should get a longer cue.
I did 60''.
Didn't like it.
You might consider playing with one longer than the standard length first to see if it's for you.
Also, you might have a greater selection with the standard length.

Get a joint extender--adds 3" to shaft length.
I use a 4" midcue extension for a total cue length of 62". At some point, I will probably order a 6" mid cue extension to see if that feels even better. A mid cue extension makes a cue more forward balanced than a rear extension. The member blokid makes custom mid cue extensions and takes orders about every six months. Newsheriffintwn used to make custom mid cue extensions, but now he is making custom cues. You could contact Newsheriffintwn to see if he would accept an order for a mid cue extension.

Cuetec sells a stackable rear extension for their cues. The stackable extension consists of a 3" extension and a 6" extension. You can permanently leave the 3" extension on a Cuetec cue to make the cue longer, then add the 6" extension when you need more reach. The stackable extension is seamless and it also fits seamlessly onto the end of a Cuetec cue. It's a great product.

Used a joint extension once and only once. Fk'd up the balance so bad it was horrible. I recently got a custom Schmelke 60" sneaky. All in price delivered was 180bux. Really likin it so far.

I guess I have low awareness levels, I have never noticed the balance on any cue being different than any others. I had a 2 1/2" joint extension made for my cue, didnt notice a difference in balance either with it or without extension. The biggest difference is that my last 2 fingers are no longer wrapped around the bumper.

Becue makes carbon butts up to 31" and carbon shafts up to 31", so you can get a 62" all carbon cue from Becue.

Me too: I can add an 8" rear extension to complement my 4" mid cue extension, for a total cue length of 70", and the cue feels great with that setup as well. Short Stop on Pool made a video about cue length for tall players:

62" and 63" are my dailys. 6'4" and I'll never go back to standard 58, or 59.
