Around my town, most of the guys that gamble like to play 6-ball. I haven't played it before and I am wondering if anyone could fill me in on the rules. Is it just like 9-ball?

Yes it's just like 9-ball...at least that's the only way I ever played it. Johnnyt

6 Ball Rules

TYPE OF GAME
A six ball variation of Nine Ball
PLAYERS
Two individuals, or two teams.
BALLS USED
Object balls numbered 1-6, plus the cue ball.
THE RACK
A diamond rack with the one-ball on the apex of the triangle and the six-ball in the center of the last row.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
To legally pocket the six-ball.
SCORING
The shooter continues at the table any time his first contact is with the lowest numbered ball on the table and a ball (other than the cue-ball) falls in a pocket as a result of his stroke. Ball and/or pocket need not be called.
RULES OF PLAY
Cue-ball's first contact, on a legal shot, must be with the lowest numbered ball on the table. Failure to do this is a foul. Safety play is not allowed. Playing a safety is a foul. Three consecutive fouls by a player is loss of game for that player.
ILLEGALLY POCKETED BALLS
No penalty is imposed beyond fouls associated with the stroke.
JUMPED OBJECT BALLS
All spotted; no penalty
CUE BALL AFTER JUMP OR SCRATCH
Incoming player has cue ball in hand behind head string.
PENALTY FOR FOULS
Incoming player has cue ball in hand behind head string.

6 ball rack

watch the rack.its easy to put the rack on someone playing six ball.its also tough to make a ball anyway.

Why would you want to play this over 9 ball? Just for diffculty of a run or what? Cus if its harder to make a ball on the break then its harder to BR and easier to run after the break (theoretically).

i play on 50 cent coin tables 99 percent of the time. its much cheeper than driving an hour to play per hour. anyway we play 9 ball most of the time. your paying for 15 balls....6 extra. we shot 6 ball first for the hell of it, guess were greedy and want all of our 50 cents.

Why do they have par 3 golf courses?

I don't really like the game, but it seems like an easy way to make some money around here. People aren't getting out half the time they're supposed to. I've seen them play as much as $20 a game.....

The only time I have ever played it was during a nine ball ring game on a bar table. Lets you play another rack with the remaining balls. What can I say? I'm cheap! ;)

I think pretty much everyone that gambles and plays on coin tables does this.

Six ball, is just a shortened game of 9-ball, it came from the coin-op tables on the east coast, I played it over 30 years ago, but it was introduced to me as Alabama 6-ball at the time. For one vend, you can get 2 games, plus 3 respots for the money ball made out of turn. It's 9-ball with the first 3 balls already made on the break, make another one and keep shooting.

Even though I havent seen a coin op table in years...(mostly 9fts around here).... I remember 6 ball games...talk about cheap..hell we would play 8 ball and then play "whatever" ball to clean off the table.........getting the most out of each quarter!!!!
