626 run pocket size

He tried for a long time on an 8 footer and couldn't pull it off. ...

What? When, where? John was contemplating trying it on an 8-footer if he didn't do it on a 9-footer, but I've never heard of him trying for the record on an 8-footer.

Nothing is the same
The table
The cloth
The balls
The weather
The chalk
and on and on...

If you can't say "Good Shooting", to a guy who ran that many balls, then you are the problem.

No, you are the problem because you are not appreciating the finer points involved.

JS had the table specially set up. He didn't walk in and find that table.

Given all else, the cloth was probably just as JS likes it.

The balls are a push.

Who knows about the weather or barometric pressure.

The chalk was to the players personal preferences.

But JS picked the table, Mosconi did not. And JS went at it *for months* with a Sardo and a white-gloved racker and played at the wrong end of the table, and most likely greased up the balls regularly during the run so they'd open up like a bag of split popcorn. Mosconi just kept going one night.

Yah, you're right. Nothing is the same.

I thought he tried on an 8' for a while.

It's getting so stupid around here, perhaps we should just start saying that what Pete Alonso did is the equal of the records set by Ruth, Aaron, and Maris.

Lou Figueroa
because it's the same
don't ya know

Lou, you have long had a distaste for john and I think it prevents you from being objective and maybe even rational about the matter.

He ran the balls. Period.

One can't expect today's events to occur in a previous generation.

Just like babe Ruth vs Sammy Sosa.
Kenny Roberts vs Marc Marquez
Jesse Owens vs Usain bolt

The list is virtually unending.

Nope. In fact, he said:

"If I'm not able to do it on a 9'er, I'll go to an 8'er"

If he had done it on an 8 footer, people would would be complaining about it not being a 9 footer.....

John, like other intelligent people, knew he couldn't please everyone so, he did what he wanted and played on the bigger table.

We all know running 626 ball is all he did.

People run balls all the time so, no biggie.

I don't even understand why John went through the trouble to record it if that's all he was gonna do......you know......just run balls.

Lol

Your 100% correct.

John didn't make it a secret why he chose a 9 footer.

I believe he made the right decision by breaking the record on a bigger table.

I've seen John play 14.1 on 8 footers. He would have ran through 526 like water even easier on an 8' table.

So far as I know he never officially tried for the high run on an 8-foot table. The first and second series of attempts were in Monterey in the same room where he did the 626 and on the same 9-foot Rebco. The third series was in Phoenix at Bullshooters on a 9-foot GC.

There was some discussion of moving to an 8-foot table if the fourth series was not successful, but that never happened.

I think that dude has a pic of Mosconi on his wall that he goes to sleep by. Serious(and kinda creepy) bromance goin on. Schmidt ran 'em, eos.

I've seen him twice on small tables at the BCA trade show. Both times he ran 180 (plus or minus a couple of balls) within three tries while I was watching.

For John, an 8-foot table looks easier and he says he feels it is easier.

BS — if you’re going to make that accusation, prove it.

He ran the balls but it was all gaffed up to provide perfect conditions, far from what happened with Mosconi’s run.

Did he not set up an 8’ for a while?

That's what he told me and going by "how easy" it looked, I have no doubt that if he had been on an 8 footer that day, the number would've been a good bit higher than 626.

Some people act as if they don't understand just how high John's "14.1" gear can be when he catches it.

I've witnessed him getting into "his" high gear and I can say it's scary high. I would love to see him find "that gear" while in tournament play where they let players continue their run. It would be brutal....

JS ran them... but it was a Disneyland run.

give your JS picture
a big wet one tonight :-)

Frankly, I believe that without perfect conditions, JS does not break Mosconi’s record.

This concept that we can use a DVD player to look through a video went out the door idk, 20 years ago. This day and age the video file can be processed and all the edit points automatically located. Some programs call them scene changes as well.

Gunisses would want multiple cameras so they can more easily verify that there are no edits or effects. It's on their website anyways..

john himself admits that he isn't a tech expert. i don't know either how to rig an overhead cam and connect it with the other 1+x cameras. that is poor planning, or low ambition

your other point, yes, videos can be tempered with. but they can also be reversed, or leave evidence behind in the files codes. so a proposition to his worst critics here would be to chip in for a professional video engineer and clear that bs.

All are free to pursue the 627!
