626 run pocket size

BS — if you’re going to make that accusation, prove it.

He ran the balls but it was all gaffed up to provide perfect conditions, far from what happened with Mosconi’s run.

Lou Figueroa

Not gaffed. That implies trickery.

Clean, yes. That's how pool is today, at least at the highest levels.

626...done and dusted.

And wait, what am challenged to prove? Your distaste for him?

It is evidenced by your own posts and the first time I recall was 7.18.2013
at the U.S. Open and he is in my face holding his motorcycle helmet and I say, "John I feel the same way." And he responds, "OK, I think you're a dick. You're a no talent, wannabe pool player. You're a fat Mexican who couldn't get laid in prison. I bet $2,000 we can go outside and I'll whip your ass. We can go now. In fact I bet I could ***** slap you right here and you wouldn't do a thing about it."

Somewhere in all that I believe I responded, "I'm not Mexican, John. And if you were to hit me, you're right, I wouldn't do anything but I have a good attorney that would make your life a living hell. I am a wannabe pool player, but could buy you several times over, and I feel sorry for you if pool is the best thing you've got going for you. You're a class act, John. A class act all the way."

No, you are the problem because you are not appreciating the finer points involved.

JS had the table specially set up. He didn't walk in and find that table.

Given all else, the cloth was probably just as JS likes it.

The balls are a push.

Who knows about the weather or barometric pressure.

The chalk was to the players personal preferences.

But JS picked the table, Mosconi did not. And JS went at it *for months* with a Sardo and a white-gloved racker and played at the wrong end of the table, and most likely greased up the balls regularly during the run so they'd open up like a bag of split popcorn. Mosconi just kept going one night.

Yah, you're right. Nothing is the same.

Lou Figueroa

You forgot to mention whether the carpet was the Plush or Fine weave!

Here is a link to Lou Figueroa in a high run straight pool challenge.

Nice runs of 4, 11 and 30.

Do you think if he had run 500 or 600 more balls on one of these runs he would claim it is invalid?

Actually, It's what we all do in our pool rooms, play a little straight pool by ourselves, get through a rack or two or three, maybe even a bit more. But that's little league.

At some point, everyone will have to admit John has the official record, and even that has been beat as well. Some are having a bad attitude here...

All the best,
WW

Did you see that 30? Did you see that 30! With any luck at all he would have got that rack and been over 40. After that who knows. Maybe John Schmidt's record would have been in jeopardy. :lmao:

Just out of curiosity. how do you even find a table with 5" pockets?

I would love to play on one.

Rebcos have real shallow shelf I think? Thin rails. 5 inch pockets are old timey. Some people enjoy that sort of stuff. We have some here in Orygun at a rural pool parlor.

Frankly, I believe that without perfect conditions, JS does not break Mosconi’s record.

Lou Figueroa

I have a feeling he would’ve ran the same or close to it that day if he’d been on an 8 or 9, wooden rack or anything else, didn’t clean the balls, racked at the foot. Those are just his quirks.

Just like Mosconi had a high run that day and may never have been able to get that high again on any given day but sometimes things just work out. And with so many tries, with john’s skill he was basically guaranteed to do it.

If someone good set their sights on 1000 and keeps at it they will break it eventually, if they start young enough.

Just some thoughts from an optimistic 27 or 31 or some ball runner lol.

greasing the balls

Noticed a few things.

First, John is good but I would have expected that long shot to hit the center of the pocket. IDK. I can do it, he should be able to as well.

Second, Just a fun thought, using a video of this type it is impossible to verify that he always had one foot on the ground. Just Sayin,

Third at about 10:00 in he missed and he passes on the ball rackers rack and racks them himself for a minute.

On a personal note.
Someone is going to have to explain this greasing the balls to me. I would like to experiment with it.

I hadn't played 14.1 until tonight and rarely run out in 9 ball. But after a few runs of 4 and 7 I broke from the foot of my Gold Crown and ran 639. Who knew that's all it takes.

I don't doubt even a little that his run happened. Obviously conditions were different but even if they were identical some people would insist it doesn't count because he didn't do it the same day as Mr. Mosconi.

Anytime a record is broken, there will be variables, some favorable, some not.

IMO, the additional century more than cancels any such variables. YMMV

Did you notice Lou's progression: 4 then 11 (almost 3 times), then 30 (almost 3 times again). If he continued that progression then the next run would be about 88, followed by 250, then he would have broken the record with a 700 +. Too bad he didn't continue but he probably just didn't want to show Mosconi up.

His beautiful runs were accomplished during a competition so his 700+ would be more valid than Mosconi's, so that is probably why Lou pulled up (Lou hates to be in the limelight).

I know you guys are joking but that's just a testament to the level of play these pros have. I'd actually be pretty pleased with myself if I was consistently running in the 30's. I would think the majority of the pool players I know couldn't shoot 30 change given 3 tries.

Nothing classier than a guy bragging about being able to buy and sell someone.

If that was true why did he need to sell pieces of himself to play John Barton?

I thought the same thing.

I was hoping BB was mistaken. Maybe Lou will come back and give his side....if it's different.

BTW, people with John's determination don't usually stay unsuccessful for long.

As a matter of fact, to me, John has accomplished as much as anyone I know.
