64 years old Danny Deliberto vs. Wade Crane

Yup, AccuStats put up that match for free recently. Fun little match and always cool seeing video from past generation players.

Nice find. Of course, both players were past their respective primes even in 1999, but their shot conceptualization skills are still strong enough to show you why they were giants of pool.

They weren't too far behind...Danny could run the balls and Wade was banking great.

Thanks for posting this.

I always liked remembering one of Danny's typically perceptive (and personal) comments said while commentating an extremely close 14.1 match around the year 2013 (paraphrasing): "Now that I've gotten pretty old for competing well at Straight Pool I still play plenty of One-Pocket, because you can miss a lot and still manage to win."

Billy is shooting out of the traps Danny laid for him, then Danny states, I can't find a place to shoot him safe,,Great Match
It came down to the very last ball of the very last game, Great to sweat such as that.

First time I'd seen Danny's play. Love him or hate him when he's commenting...but the old guy obviously knows much about what he speaks of..

Yeah that was 50 years past their primes. J/k great match in any case. DannyD was old when I popped up in 85 in pool. I’ve been lucky enough to see Danny play many times over the years. Sadly I never saw Wade play in real life, I didn’t get to the east coast much back then.

50 years past his prime?
That would make Danny D's prime when he was 14.

I was just kidding, but now that you mention it he was a hell of a boxer back then.

Im a DD fan, always liked him, used to talk with him in Vegas when he opened
pool sharks with mark trainer. Before that he did golden 8 ball in Phn with David Lee when they moved into the big building

I took lessons from Wade in 1996. He made shots during that session that I haven't seen since and since he was ambidextrous he did it with both hands. 9ft table, he placed the object ball frozen to the long rail half diamond from the corner pocket and then placed the cue on the same long rail at the opposite end of the table. He gets down and fires the cue nicking the edge of the object ball, which goes off the frozen rail cross table into the corner pocket. He did it right and left-handed, then swapped long rails and did it again. 4 shots like that in total and never missed.

He had the best 9-ball break ever and thanks to him we have alternating breaks. He is the only player in history to win the lag of a finals match and run all the racks with the opponent never getting out of the chair.

They mention this match is on 4 inch pockets as well... if it is, even more impressed at their shooting.
