Are Calcuttas legal at White Diamond

i was playing in a Pro Tournament Brass Taps in Raleigh North Carolina in the 90's.
Johnnny Archer and young Shannon the Cannon were there.
I was playing 100 One Pocket per game in the far corner while they were holding a Calcutta.

This huge guy was standing on a box with the biggest wad of cash, I have ever seen auctioning off the players.
The room was jammed packed with people.
When my name was called I was going to walk up and buy myself.

As my name was called, and as I got up from my chair.
This guy in front of me yelled as well as 20 others.
I mmediately he took off his windbreaker and out came the biggest shotgun I have ever seen.
The back of their vest said ATF.
They took the big guy's money and everyone who was around him.
The tournament was allowed to continue and I was glad i was playing in the back safe and sound with my money.
So are Calcuttas legal in Louisiana or is it Mississippi, Barney ?

WOW! A genuine CITY WIDE tournament. I like it. It makes sense for a large city where multiple pool rooms can have their tournament on Saturday and then send their champions on the Sunday Finale. (No one loses their customers to another pool room) I don't know much about the women's Japan Open but that's impressive that it is run simulataneously.

JoeyA, there's a tourney in Atlantic, IA where it is held at multiple bars throughout the town. It's quite a fun affair cause you have your matches scheduled and you just gotta check what bar and what table. The town opens the city up so you can walk and drink or whatever in public.

Once it gets toward the end, it finishes at one location. They do this for a singles tourney and a team tourney. It's like religion for people in Iowa to play and its a hell of a social event as well as competitive tournament.
 
The White Diamonds semi-annual pool tournament is coming up soon. Anyone going?

It was brutal this weekend. We finished our LAST winner's side match at around 5:00 am and lost. On Sunday morning I lost to Jimmy Majors 7-3 or 7-4, I forget which. We played at 11:00 am so it wasnt so bad for us but others played until similar hours and had to be back at 8:00 am. Don't get stuck on the one loss side. :D

Who went for the most in the Calcutta?
 
For the Calcutta it's a bunch of people chopping up their own money or less (auctioneers/poolroom cut if applicable). Zero sum gain.

The added money to the tournament is really the most important figure. I have no idea what it is. Hope it is good for the players sake.

they add a million so its pretty good for the players
