The one into the 4-ball pocket is my shot, no doubt about that.
I agree completely, it takes about 5 minutes of one pocket experience to consider that shot a hanger.

there are three much more likely shots:
1. shoot the eight right into the 3 - 5 stiking the 3 first, it will carom off the five into the hole. if this is exactly how they lay there will be no kiss on the three
2. umbrella shot, hitting the rail first behind the 3
3. cross bank to the corner, with the four where it is the pocket gets big because as you bank to the foot rail below the four the 8 will go in either by hitting the four like an umbrella shot, or just by going in without hitting the four
i think the shot you played is way more difficult and unlikely then any of the three shots i've listed. gerald

amend my three shots:
1. there must be enough space btween the 3/5 for this to work, if your not exprerienced with this type of shot then it would be difficult
2. the umbrella behind the three is nearly a sure thing, much more likely then your bank
3. there will be no collision with cue - 8 as some predict because there is so much space available to play this easy bank shot. one need not be an experienced one pocket player to make this shot.

I play this bank with top left and the cueball spins well behind the path of the 8 if you hit you right.

Two things to consider: One, Fats admits he isn't expert with the WEI table. Two, he was the one down over the shot. Second guessing is a lot like the trap some commentators fall into saying that somebody is shooting the wrong shot. Only the person over the table knows what is the right shot for him at the moment.
I'm going to say the shot fell so it was exactly the right shot played just the way he played it.

for those of you wondering why he used left english, i assume it was because the deflection of the cue ball created a better contact point on the eight to drive the 8 to the correct bank spot on the rail. on a thin back cut bank like that, the english on the eight probably barely carried to the rail. the left english gives you a better angle.
