8-Ball World Champs Latest Results

Seems Wu just ran a 3-pack to move 6-3 up.

[edit] - Now 7-3 to Wu, but with Nick having a tough shot in the early part of the frame.

Race is to 11. Wu seems almost certain!

Wu breaks and runs to move 9-3. That's 7 game wins in a row.

Nick now has to suffer through a TIME-OUT waiting for the seemingly inevitable.

Maybe the TO will do VdB some good- seems he was going nowhere quickly. So, if the Sheik decides to go and rock the casbah for a couple of hours, the players will wait without notice? It's good to be da king!

Did Wu take it all? Is anyone ever going to pick up a cue against this kid playing any game?

It seems ...

like Wu is making a statement, and that he is not a
1 tournament wonder like some might have thought,
and in fact, might just be a child prodigy of the sport.

Sounds like he ran another 3 pack to win 11-3.....from 2-3 down.

Very impressive kid. Reportedly he never missed a shot. His only errors were 3 dry breaks.

Is Wu Chia Ching the Tiger Woods of Pool???

The website that reported the live scores claims that WU did not miss a ball in the final match. The only errors were coming up dry on the break 3 times.

This kid must be an unbelievably good player.

Thanks for the update, Colin. Did they show that on ESPN Star or any other Asian TV channel?

BTW, this I guess answers my old question of whether the Taiwanese can play 8 ball!

btw: Thanks for all the reports Berry :)
Commiserations for Nick, but it was still a great showing by the Dutch this tourney!

No coverage here...I was just tranferring the commentary from Berry's website http://www.poolnieuws.nl/ , for the local AZ'rs convenience.

Congrats to Wu Cha Ching for winning the 8-ball champioship beating Nick Van Den Berg 11 -3.

History it is... we have a young 9-ball and 8-ball champion in the same year :D

What kind of break does Wu use for 8ball? Classic 9ball style from the side rail or does he smash them from around the middle? Did anyone catch?

So much for Taiwanese only good at 9ball! lol

Too bad there isn't a 14-1 world championships nowadays. I bet Wu's better at 14-1 than he is at 8 ball. Most Taiwanese players start playing pool with 14-1, then 9 ball. 8 Ball's rarely played. In fact, in the 1 month I've been back, I've yet to see anybody play 8 ball.

Dragon Promotions are doing one next year in NYC, might have been US Open 14.1 though my mind has just gone blank! Hope he plays though

Amazing. Can you regard Wu obtaining both the WPC 9Ball AND 8Ball championships in the SAME year as the greatest accomplishment in pool history? Maybe if he played in the US Open, he probably would have won that as well. The IPT will surely miss out without this kid in any of its tournaments.

Congratulations to both players, they both have great resumes for this year:

Wu: WPA World 8ball and 9ball Champion

Van Den Berg: Quarter Finalist in US Open, WPA World 8ball and 9ball Championships

I'm still amazed Van Den Berg wasn't selected to represent Europe on the Mosconi Cup team, if the team was selected going by results he would surely make the team, unfortunately that's not how they select the teams :(
