8 Ball

BCA 8-Ball Pool

Which version do you play. And, why.

In Arkansas most all the nice poolrooms & leagues play BCA rules 8-ball, it's been that way for atleast the last 20 years.

Now when you get out into some of the bars, the rules change and vary, but mostly no-slop.

Rules

Likewise, I always play BCA rules for 8 ball, and Texas Express rules for 9 ball.

I play whatever rules are in place wherever I play. League, bar-room, whatever.

we invented an 8ball one pocket hybrid where you each have two pockets all the balls have to go in, but the 8 ball has to go in the other guy's pocket. very fun! can be played with 3 pockets if 2 is too stressful.

I try to play by the WPA rules because that's what they were written for...everybody.

Just curious...when you all say 'BCA' rules, are you referring to WPA or BCAPL rules...there is a difference.

We play a version known as 1-15 (not to be confused with 14.1 continuous)

In 1-15, the 1 and the 15 balls are special.
A) the 1 and 15 are racked behind the 8 ball which consittute the 3 balls surrounded by 12 balls. The 1 goes to the left, the 15 to the right, 8 ball in its normal spot.
B)the 1 is only allowed to go in the righ side pocket, the 15 in the left side pocket looking from the rack forward.
C) if you pot your 1 or 15 in any wrong pocket--loss of game
D) if you cause the opponents 1 or 15 to move (directly or indirectly) it is loss of turn, CB stays where it is on the table.
E) if you opponent pots your ball in any wrong pocket--you are relieved of the duty to pot it in the correct side pocket (ball stays down) and his turn ends under rule D.

All other 8 ball rules apply.

We find this game considerably more difficult and intrieguing than standard 8-ball. You can use any set of rules {BCA, APA, VNEA,...) as you like.

Interesting. I love eight ball and one pocket. This is a good concept, I'll have to try it.

The 8B league I play is mostly a mirror of the APA, but it's an in-house type of thing (jump cues allowed). slop counts, BIH for all fouls except a scratch on the break (kitchen). 8-on the break wins, call the 8 (doesn't have to be clean - just has to go in the pocket). make a ball on the break - that's your suit.

i can't say i'm a big fan of that though - it's just what i have to play.

I like Alabama 8-Ball (1 & 15 go in opposite side pockets).

I also like Last Pocket 8-Ball.

For a fast game I like Short Rack 8-Ball (4 stripes, 4 solids, & the 8 ball Racked like 9 ball). Good husling Game for someone with an extroadinary Break.

Usually last-pocket these days, since the one person I frequently play with who actually likes to play 8-ball always prefers last-pocket 8-ball.

But aside from that, I like to use the BCA rules.

The league I am in is independently run (the only way to go if you ask me), and we adhere mostly to BCA rules. I think there have been a couple slight alterations, but it's basically the same.

Thanks, for all the interesting replies. The reason that I inquired is that there is yet another APA bashing thread going and I for one play in the APA. I also happen to play by TAP rules calling pockets, it really doesn't matter to me. I just play by whatever rules my opponent want's to play by and I never have any problems. So to me I really don't understand all the fuss that is put up over slop rules. In most all the games that I play slop rarely determines the outcome of a game usually only a shoot here or there. So for the most part the one that wins is the better shooter.

So my next question is how the rest of you level headed people feel on these points I just made.

I'll play whatever rule set you'd like, just as long as we both have the same rules. If I feel I am at a serious advntage. I'll play a tighter set of rules than my opponent does.

just count up the future games you play and send me a check once a month. the fee for usage is 25 cents a game royalties.

Don't expect to get rich with royalties. We're playing it now and each games takes a bit of time. Lots of fun though.
