hi forum, are there any rules as to how many safes you can play in one game.played a guy and just keep touching his ball to hook me and i would do the same,we could be there all night doing this?

In a stalemated game, where no one is attempting to make a ball, you re-rack and start over.

Just wondering what ball are you both playing off that would hook both of you?

In regards to re-racking after three attempts without trying to do something I can see that in tournament play but in a gambling game both must agree to the re-rack.

If you're playing ball in hand on fouls then these balls in question must near a rail. If that's the case then there are options here. One is to get both balls to freeze to the rail so that the incoming players must now go to a different rail or give up ball in hand. This might take more that three attempts to accomplish.

You can't just touch the ball, you need to hit a rail after that. Unless you were not using the real rules and made up "bar" rules, then who knows what rules are in the guys head about safeties and legal shots and stalemate rules. But if you go by the stalemate rules for consecutive safety play you should also go by what is a legal shot rules also which makes just tapping a ball with no rail a foul.

Normally 3 each like most have stated. If it's in a league, they should have their own rules for it. The league I shoot in now has no rule so it could go on for days.

Good question. I believe apa has a rule that applies to a stalemate but o dong know what it is.

As for number of safes allowed I dont think there is a rule that applies I have played as high as 25 safes and my opponent 15 in a 40 inning match that I won 4-3 in a 4-5 race.

The leagues I participated usually would be like this.

1. house rules
2. league rules
3. rule book if all else fails (BCA or APA).

League director or referee ruling would trump 1,2 & 3.

In the APA, unless there is a local rule to limit safeties in this situation, there is no limit,
except to say that the players must agree that neither can make use of a ball in hand.
Then (in APA 8 ball) the game, including the innings, go away and the game is reracked,
and replayed.
