I do. I play with a 800.00 dollar stick, but i'm thinking of down grading to something cheaper.

No Grady unfortunately most of us are Done With You. Ive tried to support you and give you the kind of recognition you think you deserve. I have all your tapes and books. But your destructive attitude and your constant personal attacks just turn people away from the whole business aspect of pool. I just have no interest in you and your aspirations anymore.
jason said:Unfortunately, I have to agree with yobagua and the majority of the posters in this thread.
Grady, you would do well to take a course in diplomacy.
wahcheck said:I do respect his accomplishments and past deeds in support of the game, but sadly he has been very un-professor like for some time now......
jason said:As well have I respected his accomplishments and knowledge as a player and his other contrabutions, but enough is enough. I think he has underestimated the respect that MJ has earned on this forum and the pool world.
In my opinion, some of the older "legend" players in our sport have lead us to where we are today. If there was any leadership, organization from the past, pool could be in whole lot better situation than today. They had an opportunity and failed to deliver. At least CW tried to organize the player into a union (even though not so sucessfully).
Pool has not hit bottom yet, at least pro pool that is. And until the current pros realize that their income will be from the support of league players, they will continue to fail.
Dave Nelson said:There are factory made mass produced cues on the market that sell for $175.00 that are pretty darn good.
ironman said:In his defense, I don't think it fair to blame Grady or his era for the shape of things in the pool world today. Each generation in life has it's mess to clean up and often many who try very hard to do that go unrecognized and often feel left behind.
I've never met anyone I agreed with 100% of the time and Grady is no exception, but, the man has worked his ass off to improve the game and simply earn a living at something he loves to do.
Moe often than not, there are regrets with all decisions in life and I'm sure Grady has his, but I suspect he regrets what he did far mor than what he didn't do.
I do agree though that there is entirely too much backstabbing and public name calling going on around here. Too many are trying to place ownership on something supported by independents. Independents are the toughest groups of all to organize. It's an open market and I haven't witnessed anyone in many years strong enough or stable enough to take control of it and run it.
So, we are forced to share, like it or not. JMHO!!
yobagua said:Joe Louis on his way out had to take a job at Ceasars to feed his family.
One month after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the generous Louis gave his entire $65,200 fee (about $700,000 in today?s money) from a fight to the Naval Relief Fund. Less than three months later, he gave his $45,882 purse from another fight (about $500,000 today) to the Army Relief Fund. Ever the patriot, he halted his lucrative boxing career and enlisted as a private, earning only $21 a month.
MikeJanis said:Grady, a high entry fee, no money added event, with very little advertisement. Honestly, how many players did you expect?
As a note in the future, most regional tours in you area do not even consider looking for NO Money Added events as competition for our events (exceptions = league playoffs, etc..). If fact there are sooo many of these types of events every week that it would be impossible to not schedule tour events on top of them. This rule is regardless of who the director is.
Last weekend your event had this much competition + there were many monthly $1,000 added events (Like, The Hole Thang in Macon) and the APA nationals on top of these to. Also, this is just the tip of the Iceberg when it comes to events. We tracked over 15 additional events with money added that are not even listed here.

Now, as far as your statement of "Also, while I'm at it, these regional tour events are not a good deal for the room owners".
Grady, you are an ASS. I did your Grand Opening Event and we added $2,000 to that event. We had a special deal on that event and I only did that because you were one of the 1st Pro's I ever met that took anytime to talk to me when i was coming up. I know you don't remember but it was at the AOP in Cleveland, OH and after your exhibition your were doing $5 challenge games and if the opponent won they received a Polaroid picture of you and that player. I still have my picture, at least until I can find my lighter.
On your GRAND OPENING EVENT at Grady's I promised you that it would not cost you a penny. And when I was there we were standing in the doorway between the rooms talking and going over everything and you told me, "Mike, you did a good job, we had a nice event and you were at the minimum, EVEN with all expenses". At that time we shook hands on a deal well done and I offered you, in fact I insisted and left a present for your new room just to be a part of something and add to your decor. remember the Big 8-Ball.
AND, remember my Nationals and SCO events. I always paid to have you come to the events including entry fees, lodging and meals. Even after all that you found a way to ***** because it didn't go Grady's way. Heck, in 2003 when we brought you to Cleveland on that PAID 1W, 2L performance of yours all you did was complain about how the Video guys (Joe Kerr, Aaron Czetli, Eshelman and myself) didn't invite you to announce the matches. In fact you made a complete ass of yourself right there in Northfield Billiards in front of paid spectators. You were going off about how you were the best and nobody is worthy of doing the commentary here but you and etc..., etc,, I was embarrassed that it was I that paid for you to be there.
Now, you get on here and say it is not a good deal and Mike Janis this and that.
Stick it buddy, have a nice day and good luck in the future. You need it more that most just to make up for your personality.
Yours Truly,
Mj
poke&hope said:Someone marketing their product develops friendships, someone disagrees and the flogging begins.I have met grady at various pool venues and he has always been nice to me. Whether you like his style of personality or not he says what he has to say to your face. Grady has promoted some pool events that expose people to this art which he had to know would be of little or no financial gain. If it wasn't for Grady I would have never been able to see a straight pool game of champions like John Schmidt, Danny Barouty and Fabio Patroni. This post started with a post that the information asked could have been easily found on this site. I think this was a poke at him for the small turnout and to get a reaction and it worked. I met Mike at a couple of viking events and he was nice also. Without mike I would not have the chance to participate in amateur events ran like pro events. I think the main forum used as a marketing tool causes problems and should be regulated to the proper section. Remember the cuemaker! This is just an opinion and attacks are anticipated on AZbilliards main forum.

Grady said:Sorry. We scheduled our event almost a year ahead of time and Mike Janis ans Shannon Daulton went ahead and scheduled right over us. I didn't want it this way but if they want to play hardball? Mike juggles the numbers and is far too aggressive a promoter. Shannon is spoiled, selfish, greedy and dishonest.
We are just a small business trying to make it. I think they were way out of line. Also, while I'm at it, these regional tour events are not a good deal for the room owners.
That's all I have to say. In the future we'll try to talk with quality tournaments.
